Experience:
Silicon Alley – July 9th 2012 – July 20th 2012 (Work Experience) – Technical Assistant
I performed my work experience from July 9th 2012 to July 20th 2012 at Silicon Alley, a local
technology company, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I frequently challenged myself to try and
experience different things and I really feel that I thrived on work experience. I put as much
effort as possible into every task I encountered and I feel as if I made a very good impression
of myself as 1 week after the work experience finished I received a call from Silicon Alley
offering me 1 day of work there during the Summer holidays. Overall I found my work
experience to be very enjoyable and it really gave me a good insight into the life of work.
Blackwater Leisure Centre – Café Assistant – (October 2013 - July 2014, Part Time) (July
2014 – March 2015, Full Time)
I worked as a café assistant at Blackwater Leisure Centre. My role was very challenging as I
had many responsibilities, such as: counting out my till to ensure that my float was correct
for the day, ensuring that all electrical equipment was turned off correctly at the end of the
day, ensuring that the entire café area was clean and tidy at all times, ensuring that the café
area was locked at the end of the day, counting out the daily takings (called cashing up) in
which I have to create a float for the person the next day, also during cashing up I am
required to count out all of the days earnings and record them correctly and then calculate
the variance compared to my till reading. In the job I performed both serving and cooking,
during serving I was seen as efficient, fast and well mannered; I like to ensure that the
customer feels both welcome and appreciated at all times. Also during serving I was
required to be alert in order to ensure that the correct change was given and that customers
were charged the correct amounts. During cooking I was required to ensure that certain
Health and Safety guidelines were adhered to successfully; also during cooking, pressure
was placed on me as I was required to be fast and efficient, this means that I was expected
to be alert and to be able to work well under pressure. As well as being able to work on my
own initiative, I also enjoy and work well within a team environment. Ultimately this job was
3. a very challenging one as I had many responsibilities, it provided me with a great insight into
the world of work as I was required to work hard and deal with my responsibilities correctly.
