2. Use your training to help others.   You can help at the FHC, in classes, or in member's homes.
People will look to you for guidance and support in identifying their ancestors and providing temple ordinances for them.
1. Learn all you can whenever you are at the Family History Center
You will be given a  Personal Training Checklist.  Work on it whenever there are no patrons who need your help.
Attend all the training classes you can (check the LFHC calendar at  www.lindonfhc.org   for dates).
Research your own family history.  When you are excited about searching for your ancestors, you will inspire others to do the same.

[object Object],Sign in on the computer desktop each time you visit the FHC.  Have all patrons do the same.
[object Object],Sign out here when you leave.
[object Object],You will be given a name tag.  Always wear it when serving on your shift.
[object Object],Store your name tag in the drawer.  Do not take it home with you.  Have someone show you the location of the name tag drawer.
[object Object],If you need to be absent from your shift, always notify your supervisor, in advance if possible.
[object Object],Dress code: -Maintain LDS standards  -Dress and grooming    should be modest, clean and neat
[object Object],If a male and female are the only consultants present, they must be a married couple. There must be at least two  consultants present.  Never staff the FHC alone.
[object Object],Never change the computer hardware or software.  However, it is permissible to download information to the computer if needed.  Everything is automatically  erased each night.
[object Object],Stop and have someone show you the location and use of the keys.
[object Object],If you are given your own set of keys, never loan them to anyone.
[object Object],All CD’s, books, microfilms microfiche, and other materials must stay in the Family History Center.
[object Object],Food and drink are not allowed in the computer rooms.  However, they are allowed in the adjacent classrooms.
[object Object],For building security, do not allow the FHC to be used as a pass-through to the main building for non-patrons.

[object Object],The wireless internet login is “adam1234”.  This login is also posted on the shelf. Laptops
[object Object],Microfilm Ordering   Patrons order their own  microfilms online at   http://film.familysearch.org  from any computer, whether at home or at the FHC.  They pay by credit or debit card on that website.

[object Object],Receiving Patron Money The FHC charges a fee of 5 cents for copies.  Note: Only a small amount of cash is kept at the FHC.

Record it by clicking on Cashbox on the desktop.
Then fill in the patron name and amount
[object Object],At the beginning of each shift, count the cash in the cashbox and reconcile it to the computer record. Receiving Patron Money

Lost and Found Place any lost items in the lost and found   PROCEDURES

[object Object],Doorbell If you hear a doorbell, a patron is waiting at the north door in the hallway.
Do not clean the screens. EQUIPMENT Computers
Do not turn them off unless a reboot is necessary to correct a problem. They automatically turn off each night. EQUIPMENT Computers
[object Object],To report a computer problem,  click on “Report a Problem” on the desktop.
If a problem needs immediate attention,  the phone numbers  of the technical staff  are posted by the phone. EQUIPMENT Computers

EQUIPMENT Projector There is a ceiling-mounted projector for teaching and training.

To copy an image from a film or fiche, follow the directions in the binder next to the film reader. Microfilm Copier EQUIPMENT
[object Object],These are used when viewing training videos with sound, so that others are not disturbed. Headphones
[object Object],They are located in the same cupboard as the books.  Stop and have someone show you how to use them. Headphones
[object Object],This is used to copy, preserve,  and share photographs and documents on the computer. Camera
[object Object],Ask your supervisor to schedule a time for your camera training. Camera
COMPUTER DESKTOP Spend time exploring the programs and materials accessible through the LFHC Desktop.  This will be an ongoing training and should continue throughout your service at the FHC.

[object Object],Here you will find the FamilySearch programs and helps.
[object Object],“ Portal programs” are websites which normally charge a fee to access their information,  but are FREE at Family History Centers. Spend time exploring these sites as soon as possible.

[object Object],This is where you can access personal database programs.   These are  sometimes called “FamilySearch affiliates” or “3 rd  party” programs.

[object Object],Helping set ward goals for  Indexing.  Indexing is easy and almost anyone can do it.

  • 8. You will be given a Personal Training Checklist. Work on it whenever there are no patrons who need your help.
