This document provides descriptions of the key components used to install a desktop computer. It describes the power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM, fans, hard disk drive, optical drive, floppy drive, video adapter, network interface card, cables (PATA, SATA, floppy), case panels, monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB ports, Ethernet port, wireless antenna, and power cord. Photos accompany some components to illustrate their appearance and location within the desktop case.
3. Floppy cables
The floppy channel, FDD
header, or floppy
connection is where the
floppy drive connects to
the computer
motherboard. In the below
picture, is an example of a
motherboard with two IDE
connections and a floppy
channel connector.
15. PATA cable
Parallel pata is an IDE
standard for connecting
storage devices like hard
drives and optical drives to
the motherboard. PATA
generally refers to the types
of cables and connections
that follow this standard.
16. SATA cable
Stands for Serial Advanced
Technology Attachment or
Serial ATA. It is an interface
used to connect ATA hard
drives to a computer's
motherboard.
