This is a possible design for the rest of the presentation slides.
Explain the objective of THIS slide, not the whole presentation. The objective of this presentation is to describe the diffusion of Webcourseworks to a panel of people who could potentially buy the package. Narration: Hello, I am Lynetta Powell. I am an Instructional Design Specialist with the CP-32 Internship. I am responsible for finding and researching innovations that will help your organization grow and flow. Today I will be briefing you on the Web Courseworks software package.
Narration: I recommend that you approve the purchase of the Web Courseworks package for the management of the distributed learning Military Police Captain’s Career Course.
Narration: The MPCCC has a Reserve Component. The Reserved soldiers come here for half of their training. The other half of their training is done in a distance learning environment. Reservists usually have part time jobs and receive much of their training online. They have been deployed to command positions at war without the proper training. There is a need for trained and educated commanders at war. The dL product is approved, but there currently is no way to manage the entire program.
Narration: The MPCCC course manager as well as the training developers and instructors have reviewed and concurred with the adoption of this innovation. They enjoy the efficiency of having the course material, learning management system, and gaming and simulations all on one platform. They also believe that the software was user friendly and that reserve students would learn in the environment. They noted that having a gaming and simulations capability would enhance the learning that the reservist received in a dL environment. The course manager also liked that in the Learning Management System, they could efficiently track who received what training, and to what level.
Narration: The second course of action was to stay with the current program. Blackboard is the current program and can store slide presentations and word documents. The instructor can also create tests and evaluations in Blackboard. However, there is no LMS and no simulations element to Blackboard. The third course of action was to use CDs and DVDs. CDs and DVDs are portable and sturdy. However, they do not connect to a learning management system, and the gaming and simulations on a CD or DVD pale in comparison to what is available when connected to the Web.
Narration: Verizon and McDonalds currently use Web Courseworks to train their employees. Their clients range from global Fortune 100 companies to educational institutions to state governments. They have provided training solutions using tutorials, simulations, open ended lessons, and game based learning.
Narration: One drawback of the Web Courseworks package is the <up front costs? (waiting on phone call from Web Courseworks) > However, when we compare the costs of these capabilities as separate, we see the savings. Another drawback of the Web Courseworks package is that it is new. We are familiar with each innovation separately. We have used similar courseware, we have used learning management systems, and we have used simulations. However, we have yet to have all these capabilities in one. This is not really a drawback of the software, rather difficulties we may encounter when trying to get the organization to adopt this innovation.
Narration: One way we can get the innovation adopted quicker is to explain how the interns, commanders, course managers, and newest employees would be the innovators and early adopters of Web Courseworks. The strategies to persuade them include this briefing for the commanders, training courses included in the intern and new employee IDP (individual development plan), and this briefing for the course managers. Relative advantage is important because the players need to know that it is better than what we already use and that it is worth the time needed to get used to a new product. Compatibility is important because it can’t make using what we will keep harder. It must work with what already works. And trialability is important because adults typically want to play around with a system to get comfortable with it first. This is how we will persuade the laggards also. The laggards will be the training developers who are comfortable with the existing systems as separate. A dynamic presentation followed by time to play with the system will help them to move toward adoption.
Narration: Technology is the final complement to a meticulous, pedagogically-sound instruction design process. Before teaming up with top notch flash developers and graphic illustrators, the Web Courseworks designers use Bill Horton’s 3 step learning process of Absorb, Do, and Connect. This approach to training incorporates the Systems Approach to Training in a practical e-learning way. Absorb activities inform and inspire. Do activities transform information into knowledge and skills. Connect activities help learners close the gap between learning and the soldiers possible encounters while in command.
Narration: Fill in narration for this slide titled: Packaging and Marketing, formerly Commercialization slide 2. Look up information on Madison Circle of Merchants, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the social learning aspect. Brief!
Narration: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) uses the Web Courseworks package and probably had some of the same questions that you may be having. If we look at the timeline linked here, we can see what to expect when you give the go ahead on adopting this innovation. Web Courseworks was developed in 1999, however WADA’s R&D was tasked and learned of its capabilities in 2008. They read about the package and was persuaded by the linked letters and conversations with some opinion leaders in their field who used the Web Courseworks package. They decided to use the Web Courseworks package in October of 2009. They began implementation at the start of 2010, to include using its courseware, lms, and gaming. To date, WADA has success with the use of Web Courseworks software. Listen to this (or watch this) testimonial. (No more than 30 seconds. )
Narration: The Web Courseworks package has not reached full saturation. We would be early adopters of the innovation. Yes, McDonalds and Verizon are using it, as well as global Fortune 100 companies. However, they, too are early adopters. Other companies look to the government for innovation. When we have success with the Web Courseworks package, we can influence efficiency throughout the nation.
