The estimated HIV prevalence in Sudan is 0.4% in 2014, affecting around 74,000 people. Most new infections are among males (88%) under 30 years old (32%). The main risk groups are men who have sex with men (44.6%), heterosexual sex (25.2%), and those with unknown or undocumented risk factors (30.2%). Sudan has 34 ART centers providing free antiretroviral treatment to over 3,300 people living with HIV. Public awareness, information, counseling, testing, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and care and treatment services target the general population, while peer education and outreach focus on vulnerable groups including men who have sex with men.
