Accuracy with interpreting Carbon paper
– 295 test subjects ranging in age and occlusal camps
– 6 photos of paper marks
– Test subjects chose highest and lowest marks (12
questions)
Conclusion
– Mean correct out of 12 questions was 1.53 or 12.5%
– We are inefficient at subjectively interpreting low or
high occlusal forces using carbon paper

Freedom in centric occlusion occurs when the
mandible is able to move anteriorly for a short
distance in the same horizontal and sagittal
plane while maintaining tooth contact.
Alternatively there will be no freedom in centric
occlusion if either the front teeth or the
posterior occlusion do not allow this horizontal
movement.

First- Start with the Blue cup. Place in a slow
speed handpiece for electric motor and set the
RPM for high mode. Have the patient bite only
in CO with Accufilm. Locate the first initial hit
and lightly touch the articulation marks
according to the scan. Locate the first early
timing marks again and lightly adjust. Then
take another T-Scan®. Repeat.

James Downs, DMD received his degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He owns LeDowns Dentistry in Denver, Colorado with his wife. Dr. Downs is an expert in comprehensive restorative treatment. He currently lectures throughout the US and Europe for the Dr. Dick Barnes Group. Dr. Downs has been a T-Scan user for X years and currently uses digital occlusal technology in his practice.
The T-Scan puts your articulating paper marks into context by showing the force of marks you need to care about, to help reduce treatment time and improve patient care. T-Scan helps clarify your patient's occlusion by showing you the forces of paper marks that need management, to protect your patient's investment, so you can maximize valuable chair time.
