Dubai's Palm Jumeirah Island Built Like a Palm Tree

2. The Palm Jumeirah is the
smallest of three man made
island resorts off the coast of
Dubai in the United Arab
Emirates. The unique island is
built in the shape of a date palm
tree and consists of a trunk, a
crown with 17 fronds.
The island is 5 kilometers by 5
kilometers and its total area is
larger than 800 football pitches.
The crown is connected to the
mainland by a 300-meter bridge
and the crescent is connected to
the top of the palm by a subsea
tunnel.

the world like the Palm
Islands since it’s actually a
chain of various islands
joined together made to
look like a palm tree.
Dubai Palm is one among
only a few islands which is
visible from space to the
naked eye, heralded as
the 8th wonder of the
world.

5. There is a crescent that wraps the Palm Island and acts as a breakwater to shield the
island from high waves in case of storms or typhoons. In order to make this breakwater
durable, it consists of sand and Geo textile fiber along with some small and medium
rocks.
6. The creation of the Palm Jumeirah began
in June 2001.

4,000 residences with a
combination of villas and
apartments over the first 3 to 4
years.
Residents began moving into
their Palm Jumeirah properties
at the end of 2006, five years
after land reclamation began on
the east side of the trunk.

17. Palm Jumeirah has many shopping centre, recreation places, hotels, and
spas. The heart of Palm Jumeirah is the trunk which is 2 km long living retail
and tourism destination.
