Wrapping it Up for the Holidays
          12 Tips from 2010
January 2010
If you’re in the B-to-B space, send email when people are most
likely to be at their desk. Email sent too early or too late in the
day delivers lower metrics. Late morning, mid-week tests best
for most PWR clients.
February 2010
Avoid EXCESSIVE CAPITALIZATION in your emails—it
triggers spam filters and makes people think you’re yelling
at them.
March 2010
When crafting a From Line for your email, use the name
of the featured organization—organization names deliver
better metrics than names of marketing firms, PR firms or
personal names.

When it comes to From Lines, honest, clear and concise
is always best.

Is sharing your content on Twitter a priority?

If so, consider adding a "Tweet This" icon to your New Media
Release, e-newsletter, blog post or landing page. Make it
easy for anyone viewing your content to click a button and
spread the word.
May 2010
Video is a great way to communicate your message. Whether
you’re sending monthly e-tips, distributing a news release,
beefing up your newsroom, or simply adding spice to your
website, YouTube quality video is a compelling way to engage
your audience. And, if you want to make it transferable, make
sure to add an embed button so recipients can easily grab your
video and drop it on their own sites

                                                          Click to grab
                                                          embed code

Looking for coverage in this year’s holiday gift guides? Create a
digital gift guide loaded with images and useful info. Send it to
long-lead publications in the early summer months. Then,
redistribute it to short-lead outlets in the fall to maximize your
coverage.

                                            See examples of holiday guides
                                                 here, here and here.
July 2010
In our recent survey, 88% of journalists said receiving images with
a news release is (very) important. On the other hand,
attachments earned a big thumbs down. So, include an image
gallery with every release and make it easy for journalists to
choose and download web or print quality images. And if you
really want to wow them, consider adding an image player the
media can grab and transfer to their own sites.

                             See player examples
                                here and here.

Do you know how your E-newsletter, New Media Release or other
HTML email renders outside of a computer screen? Make sure to
add a mobile-friendly link that will render properly on any handheld
device. And don’t forget to test in advance to ensure proper iPad
rendering.

September 2010
Facebook is changing the width of their tabs. So, if you have
(or are planning to add) a tabbed Facebook page, now is the
time to update it.
October 2010
Want to make your message easier to find online? Use
keywords to meta-tag all your digital collateral: New Media
Releases, microsites, E-newsletters and more. Ask PWR
about meta-tagging your next project.
November 2010
Now is the time to start thinking about your holiday E-cards.
Although we at PWR often discourage folks from using animation
in emails, when it comes to holiday e-cards creativity and
innovation can really pay off. What conveys your holiday
message? Talking snowman...ringing bells...twinkling candles or
perhaps an interactive game?
December 2010
Take advantage of all the great, often free, resources the
web has to offer to add dimension and texture to digital
assets. It’s a great way to repackage and reuse content.
