There are so many names we
could study one name each

It would take more than a year
to study them all.

Thereare several ways we use bad
language

Cursing
Take what is holy – drag it through the mud

Many “Christians” misuse God’s name
God is not the “big guy upstairs”
When surprised – “Oh my God”
When frightened – “God, you scared me”
Lady in grocery store, “Lord, did you hear
him swear?”
9. Misuse of His Name
Fail to Keep Promises
Deuteronomy 23:21-23
21
“When you make a vow to the LORD your God,
you shall not delay to pay it; for the LORD your
God will surely require it of you, and it would be
sin to you.
22
But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin
to you.
23
That which has gone from your lips you shall
keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to
the LORD your God what you have promised
with your mouth.
10. Misuse of His Name
Fail to Keep Promises
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5

When you make a vow to God, do not
delay to pay it;
For He has no pleasure in fools.
Pay what you have vowed—
5
Better not to vow than to vow and not
pay.
11. Misuse of His Name
Hypocrisy
Ifwe worship God, and
confess our faith in Christ –
But deny Him in our lives the
rest of the week –
We have broken this
commandment of God.
12. Misuse of His Name
Hypocrisy
1 John 4:20
If someone says, “I love God,”
and hates his brother, he is a
liar; for he who does not love
his brother whom he has seen,
how can he love God whom he
has not seen?
13. Misuse of His Name
Hypocrisy
John 14:15
If you love Me, keep My
commandments.
14. Proper Use
Profession
We must acknowledge Him, claim
Him
Romans 10:9 - that if you confess
with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God
has raised Him from the dead, you
will be saved.

breaking this promise
17. The Penalty
Not be guiltless
With guilt comes punishment
The purpose of discipline is to bring
repentance
The purpose of repentance is to
restore fellowship
18. Conclusion
We must reverence and respect the
name of God
We must show reverence for all that is
holy and sacred
We must not abuse God’s name.
It is a stupid thing to treat the name of
God carelessly.
19. We Treat God’s Name
Carelessly
How are you treating the name of
God?
Is your life showing a reverence for
God?
Is God pleased with your use of His
name?
