Craftsman (3D171) MSgt
1. I started in the Ohio Air National Guard, as a traditional
guardsman, working in the Audio Visual Maintenance section.
In 1988 I cross trained and started working in the
Communications Maintenance Section. There I performed duties
as Ground Radio Maintenance Technician. In 1990 I became the
Ground Radio Shop Supervisor with 7 subordinates in 3
different Air Force Specialties under my supervision. In 1995 I
cross trained again and started working as the Small Computer
Maintenance Shop Supervisor with 4 subordinates in 2 different
Air Force Specialties under my supervision. I also supervised
and trained the subordinate supervisors as they managed their
respective Air Force Specialties. The name and some of the
duties, of this section, were later changed to Network
Infrastructure Maintenance. Maintenance of the Network
Infrastructure included Network switches, ITNs and cabling.
On 1 November 2010 my Air Force Specialty was converted to
Client Systems. The duties of this AFSC included manning and
oversight of the Communications Focal Point, Personal
Computer Repair and Customer Support for a wide variety of
3. Communications Services. At that time I supervised 3
subordinates. As a shop supervisor my duties were to plan,
organize and implement the training and work assignments in
the shop to ensure timely completion, mission accomplishment
and customer satisfaction. Due to the variety of equipment and
overlapping duty areas, having good communication skills and
a good working relationship with the personnel from other
areas of the Communications Flight and subordinates was the
key to mission completion in a timely manner. This concept was
instilled in the subordinates and their supervisors. I also
performed duties as electronics maintenance technician on a
wide variety of electronics equipment to include Audio Visual,
Ground Radio, Wireless Network, Infrastructure, Small
Computer Systems and Network Servers. These duties were
accomplished complying with all Technical Orders,
Manufactures Manuals and regulations. The types of work
include planning, analyzing problems, installation, testing,
servicing, repair and general maintenance. Paper and computer
generated forms of documentation were utilized during all
phases of work to document the man power and resources used.
Other duties required me to review Air Force, Air National
Guard and local instructions for requirements. Then established
the priorities and procedures necessary to meet the required
timelines established by my supervisor, higher headquarters
inspection schedule and the limited amount of time during a
Unit Training Assembly. Training the drill status guardsmen as
quickly as possible without sacrificing quality was a high
priority.
2. Additional duties include being the 180th Communications Fight
Unit Career Advisor, Integrated Maintenance Data System Focal
Point, Unit Deployment Manager for Equipment and Increment
Manager.
