1. Evaluation
In what ways does your music magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines?
My music magazine respects and follows the basics codes and convention of music magazines. I did a lot of research before creating my magazine, I also looked at magazine codes and convention, and I therefore created myself an idea of what my magazine would look like before creating it. I wanted my magazine to be popular for my target audience, I made it very simply, and I used and developed features from other magazine into mine to make it more appealing. How does your music magazine represent different social groups?
My magazine does not represent a very wide range of social groups, I went for a very niche and specified genre. My magazine will not be for the main stream, I made it for passionate of guitar, and rock music. However my magazine represents different social groups within its articles, as it features and promotes bands from a wide background. What kind of media institution might distribute your music magazine and why?
Guitar shops and general mainstream music instrument shops will sell my magazine, because I made my magazine taking into account beginners in playing music. I offer many supplements and tutorials that may appeal to beginners. Therefore music stores will be interested in distributing my magazine. I also believe student unions and local student organisation might distribute my magazine. My main target audience is young musicians, therefore local schools and college will be good ways of introducing my magazine, or distributing it. Production houses may also distribute my magazine, but it will be harder to achieve. By showing in my magazine through which institution an artist started up, production houses might take an interest in distributing my magazine, because it is aimed at young unsigned musicians.Who would be the audience for your music magazine?
The readers of my magazine will be young musicians, as well as teenagers and young adults interested in music. However it is also suitable for an older audience because I offer many tutorials and tricks for guitar passionate. My main target for this task was guitar players, of any kind of backgrounds. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience through the choice of artist and genre. Many of the artists featuring my magazine are suitable for teenagers and young adults. But it they are mainly popular for musicians and guitar specialists. To target the musicians in my audience, I featured many tutorials and information useful to musicians. My supplements are also useful to attract my audience; I offered a possibility to win different prices such as guitars and concert tickets. The photos used were also thought through a lot, I used a photo for my front cover that would link well with this idea of rock and guitar solos. The front cover shows a single person which is a good illustration of guitar solos and ideas behind my magazine. The same front cover is also very colourful which creates a old fashion look, this retro aspect of the magazine helps address to my audience, because it connotes this hippie and 70s music aspect with lots of great guitar artists my audience will enjoy. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this music magazine?
I learned my things about technologies from the process of constructing my magazine. In the making of my double page spread I used a program called “In design” this was very hard at first because I never used it before. However once I got used to it, it became easier. I also learned a lot about editing photos on “Publisher” and constructing a magazine.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full production?
I have learned a lot in this task. Before starting this task I did read a lot of magazines, I therefore found it hard; I did not know anything about the codes and conventions of magazines. While creating my preliminary task I had problems making my mind on how to present things. But after finishing my preliminary task, I did a lot a research which helped me a lot, I learned more about music magazine, codes and conventions. I feel like a learnt a lot and developed many skills, such as the technological skills I used to create my magazine.
