part of the deal for them
working for low/no pay
Very dark but
simplistic imagery,

audience and
clouds it in
mystery

of the poster
perhaps the most
important part of
the poster.

quite mysterious, not giving
the story away but gives a
hint towards the themes.
Directors name as a
credit, relatively large
feature of the poster
Production titles, very
small, usually they are
a major part of the
poster but here are
barely readable.
3. The directors name is very
blurred out and quite dark,
not a essential part, suites
the theme

helping with this
mysterious theme that the
film makes.
The image is dark once
again, following the
common theme of part of
his face being blacked out.
Adds to the mysterious tone
of the genre.

and how the characters

5. The very dull colours
add a quite mysterious
tone and the old crinkle
effects make it seem
aged, adding a
verisimilitude to the
poster that makes it
more striking.
The title is very bold and clear,
the fonts are very blocky here
unlike some other genres.
The images of the
two men taking
dominance in the
image also shows its
going to be about
the intrapersonal
aspects of their lives.
Production tags, has a list of
all the production companies
and any affiliates related to
it.
6. Analysis - Content
In analysis of these posters, there are a few content related themes
that are consistent throughout the posters. Almost all of the posters
star the protagonists in the fore front of the poster. This is immediately
trying to show that its going to revolve around the protagonist and is
going to be about their experiences in their lives, it will likely hold
strong verisimilitude to real life and represent realistic or
understandable situations. These represent the genre as about the
protagonist and what happens to them, rather than just around them.
7. Analysis – Style
A lot of them possess a dark theme to them which comes in various
forms. For Common Grounds and Gray a very film noir style being very
dark and mysterious. Representing bad things happen around the
protagonists and cast. Meanwhile Apple seems quite innocent but has
an eerie tone to its simplicity making the audience feel like something
darker is about the scene. Two Sided also has this with the dark colours
involved being quite dull, shows something mysterious may be
happening, or something dark. And finally Streamline has the blurred
effect, that suggests something is clouded or fogged, showing the
protagonist is in danger or something around them is under threat.
These dark themes appear to be consistent but represented in
different ways, all of them using connotative means for people to
figure out what the plot signals.
8. Analysis – Language
Out of the three that have clear tag lines (Stream line, Apple and
Common Grounds) the tag lines have quite clear effects and ideas.
They all have a mysterious element with them, such as “How far does
the apple fall from the tree?” This seems quite innocent but its
rhetorical nature makes the film feel mysterious and almost
psychological. “Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself.”
This is not using the same rhetorical feature and is a little more blunt,
but is hinting at the fact they have done something and are ashamed,
but make you wonder but the mysterious act could be. “Change the
way you remember” This one is different from the others, but has a
Sci-Fi genre instead of Thriller. It does also have a mysterious edge,
hinting that perhaps his memory has been changed or he wishes it had
been. Suggesting personal conflict but we are not sure what this
conflict is until we watch the film.
9. Analysis – Layout
All of the posters star the main character in a close up. This shows that
they will all focus around the events of the protagonist and supporting
cast rather than events or places being focused upon. This also shows
the main character may also be having an internal conflict within
themselves as well as the other supporting actors. They all have the
conventional themes of the titles being a prominent part but to what
extent is the difference, Apple and Gray both have very central titles
being the largest part of the poster, perhaps more dominant than the
image itself. Meanwhile Two sided, Streamline and Common Grounds
have their titles towards the bottom part of the poster. The
conventions seem to be split here between where the main title
should be centred, but it should be a central part of the poster in clear
view.
