(VRZ) retrofit to curb energy
costs at a metropolitan Atlanta church and
daycare center.
THE CHALLENGE
McKenney’s had to install the VRZ at the
multi-storied church with aging infrastructure
and architecture. There could be no downtime
in air conditioning to the daycare facility—
which the existing system primarily served—
and the team had to adhere to lengthy
“no noise” hours.
THE SOLUTION
The team installed all equipment while the
existing system was online. As a precaution,
work began in the fall so the cooling system
could be modified when those electrical
circuits weren’t needed. Also, much of the
installation was done after daycare hours to
safeguard the children.
THE RESULTS
The church is now able to curtail energy
expenses by cycling systems on and off as
needed. This successful retrofit differentiated
McKenney’s among building services provid-
ers that install conventional split systems
and has led to additional VRZ installations
at this and other Atlanta churches.
