11. Setting up a country-
wide lecture capture
solution
the Estonian way ;)
12. Looking back on
how it all started:
• August 2008 – 3 schools testing “the new
thing”
• 2009 – all the main universities in Estonia
adapted lecture capture to their workflow
• 2011 – applied science universities joined
forces to start using lecture capture
14. Today
• 5300+ lectures recorded and published…
• …with only 25 classrooms equipped with the solution
(some of them are mobile units)
15. Today

• 281 000+ views

• 281 000+ views
• 147+ hours captured every week

(some of them are mobile units)
• 281 000+ views
• 147+ hours captured every week
• 14 universities and applied science universities using the
same solution
18. Today
• 5300+ lectures recorded and published…

(some of them are mobile units)
• 281 000+ views
• 147+ hours captured every week
• 14 universities and applied science universities using the
same solution
• about 50 000+ students
28. Academic acceptance
Step-by-step approach
First the innovative teachers lead the way
and others will follow ;)
Students feedback – teachers need to know
that capturing lectures is really needed
Simple tools to help the teachers
31. Cost management
Together is easier
Joint license acquisition
Lower the adaptation-curve

Notes de l'éditeur
I come from Estonia. The small Northern-Europe country with a lot of pure nature…
…and internet everywhere.(what do you think the girl sitting on this heyball is doing?)But where there’s internet, there’s also learning and that it exactly what we are passionate about
Supporting learning over the internet has been the passion for Estonian IT Foundations e-Learning Development Centre for the last decade
Just to support my position, here’s a few facts about what we have already achieved:We host (probably) the biggest Moodle installation in Europe with 90 000+ users and XX+ schools. All this is for free to all the schools.
We have supported the development of new e-learning materials in multitude of subjects and in the amount of XXXX+ ECTS
All these e-learning materials are freely available to everyone in our central repository under Creative Commons licenses
All this has has been achieved with the partnership of Estonian schools in the e-University and E-Vocational Schools consortia's
Now to the topic for today.Setting up and coordinating a country-wide lecture capture solution.
Lets look back to lecture capture in Estonia:We started with lecture capture in august 2008 and had 3 schools as the test base for this new technology Big universities in Estonia adapted lecture capture into their everyday workflow in 2009In this september we had already 13 schools in the same lecture capture boat in Estonia
Currently:5000+ lectures recorded and publishedWith only 25 classrooms (some of them are mobile)2 servers in different parts of the country300 000+ views???On average of XX+ hours recorded weeklyServicing about 50 000+ students all over the country

And this is just the beginning
8 new schools this year
Vocational schools are on the horizon…
LIVE is gaining popularity

What have we learned?
Academic acceptance of new service
Step-by-step through innovators and the management.Lead the way and the people will come…Estonian IT College is recording each and every event in the rooms equipped with lecture capture solutions.Simple tools to help lecturers understand what really is going on…
