4.1 optics
1.
2. What is optics?
Optics is the study of visible light and the ways in
which visible light interacts with the eye to produce
vision.
3. Law of Reflection
Law of Reflection- states that the angle of reflection
equals the angle of incidence
4. Regular Reflection
Regular Reflection- the reflection of parallel light rays
all in the same direction
Occurs on smooth surfaces
5. Diffuse Reflection
Diffuse Reflection- the reflection of parallel light rays
in many different directions
Occurs on surfaces that are not smooth
Some may feel smooth to the touch (like paper), but are
actually full of texture
6. Shape determines how mirrors
form images
An image is a picture of an object formed by light.
Flat mirrors show an image that looks exactly like
you.
Convex mirrors (curved outward) the image will
appear smaller than you.
Concave mirror (curved inward)
Far way- image upside down and smaller
Close up- right-side up and bigger
7. Focal Point
Focal point- the point at which the rays meet
