In this Speedgeeking session from Lotusphere 2012, I described the benefits of using the basic XPages technique of an outer custom control with common layout elements containing an inner custom control with specific page content.

18. In this example, the custom control “layout_Container” contains the header, side menu and Editable Area control, which appears on the screen as a rectangle with an ID that starts with “facet_”

25. In this example, the custom control “layout_ByDateAdded” has a repeat control that displays the 3 most recently added pictures.

29. Drag the outer custom control onto the XPage.
