SUBJECT: Proposal Topic Memo
Overview and Objective:
In this memo, I will explain my design choices for my online profile as well as discuss my final
project revision plan. Also, I will be reflecting upon my experience in ENGL 398.
After reading this document, one should be able to explain every design choice concerning my
LinkedIn profile and understand my thoughts and feelings about ENGL 398.
LinkedIn Profile Design:
The main purpose of my profile is to explain who I am to the reader correctly and. Thus, I tried
to keep the profile simple and easy to navigate.
This is why I began with my summary my profile page with my summary. It gives a brief
overview of who I am, and who I am looking to become. I chose education as the next section
because I am a student. At this point in my life, education is important to me and it is more
powerful than any of my work experiences in terms of making an impression. The next section is
the projects section because I describe my projects in my education portion and it makes sense
for them to be ordered that way. I followed the projects section with my work experience section
because it is the next strongest part of my resume. The skills and languages are left near the end
because they are not a huge part of who I am, but they are still important enough to be included.
Unit 2 Revision Plan and Lessons:
I am going to revise my research proposal once I return from winter break. I will begin on
Jan.12th by revising my Literature Review and adding more information that has been newly
investigated. By Jan 20th I will revise the cover letter and proposal. Finally, on Jan. 25th the topic
memo will be updated adding the new information. At this point the work plan will need to be
pushed back three weeks so I will update that.
Unit 2 has taught me that planning a project before beginning to work on the project can save
loads of time and stress. I have also learned that planning and scheduling a project in advance
results in better quality work.
ENGL 398 Reflection:
I have heard many horror stories about ENGL 398. Luckily, this was not my experience. The
class work was light and enjoyable. It’s not often that I get a chance to write as an engineering
major. I think writing, especially in a technical sense, should be implemented more in
engineering classes.
The class was almost always willing to participate and discuss factors of technical writing which
was good. I think a major reason for this was the enthusiasm the teacher brought to class
everyday (I’m not just saying this because you’re grading this. I think it’s true). I also think that
was the major difference between the terrible ENGL 398 classes and the one I had.
2. Throughout the semester, I improved in my technical writing skills and scheduling my
assignments. As an aspiring physician, I will be interacting with a wide group of people so I will
need the technical background to provide correct information quickly with no misunderstanding.
Also, the in class interaction between classmates in small groups will help me work with people
in the future.
Overall, I enjoyed the class, and I would recommend it to my fellow engineers as not only a good
class, but a class that would help them succeed.
