Why Teens need Sleep?

1.  The brain is in a constant state of
tension between cells and chemicals
that try to put you to sleep and cells
and chemicals that try to keep you
awake.

2.  The body systems do not shut down
 Some brain activity increases during sleep.

3. Memory and Learning requires sleep.
Concentration and focus are required for
optimal mental exertion
A rested mind will perform at its best.

4. Teens need about 8.5 – 9 hours every
night.
 Sufficient sleep is necessary for learning.

5.  Sleep patterns change during growth
because the brain’s biological clock shifts.
 The shift is a delay in the sleep/wake
cycle.

6.  Studies show:
 The reaction times of adolescents are much better
in the afternoon that they are in the morning.
 And that students perform better in the afternoon
that in the morning.

8. So, scheduling test first
thing in the morning is not a
good idea.

10.  Decrease TV, phone, and the Internet time.
 Inform them why its important to get a good
nights rest.
