Say you have had a drink or two, and now it is
time to head home at the end of the evening. How
much is too much? How do you decide when to
pull out your keys and when to call a cab?
3. It goes without saying that if you feel the slightest
bit tipsy, do not drive. If you do not feel drunk, but
are still worried about the amount of alcohol in
your system, here are some tips.
If you are driving and your blood alcohol content
(BAC) exceeds a certain percentage, you are
eligible for a DUI. In Georgia, the percentage is .
02% for drivers under 21 and .08% for drivers
over 21. For those operating commercial vehicles,
BAC must be less than .04%
4. How many drinks is that? The amount varies
greatly from person to person based on gender,
weight, certain medications, body fat percentage,
metabolism, how much you have eaten, how long
you have been drinking, and many other factors.
For a 100 pound female, two drinks in one hour is
risky, but a 200 pound male could have 4 to 5
drinks without exceeding .08. A drink is defined as
one beer, three ounces of wine, or one shot of
hard liquor.
5. DUI calculators found online can provide more
detailed information, but keep in mind that your
personal characteristics could make you more
likely to carry alcohol in your system than the
program predicts. As a general rule, consider
alternative transportation if you are planning on
drinking at all.
