Concept and design for Shout
Outs! series of books aimed at
7-10 year olds. They are a themed
collection of hilarious Ripley facts
and stories with original cartoons
which I commissioned.
Covers and inside designs of the
Twists books, following a design
style already set and working
closely with the editor in this
strong visually led series. Also
responsible for making sure each
spread is dynamic for the young
reader which meant a lot
of picture research too.

Surfboard Rat
When 14-year-old
Boomer Hodel of
Haleiwa, Hawaii, took
his pet rats to the beach
to give them a wash,
he never expected
they would enjoy the
experience so much that
it would lead to a whole
new hobby. The rats—Fin and
Tofu—loved splashing around in
the shallow water, so Boomer taught
them how to surf and they now make regular trips to the beach
with their cute custom-built surfboards to ride the waves!

How to...
draw a monkey’s face
1 Draw two circles
on top of a larger
oval for the face.
Draw around them
to make the shape of
the face.
2 Draw a larger circle
that its around
the whole thing –
you now have the
monkey’s face.
4 Draw
a small
oval in the
centre of the
face to make
the monkey’s nose.
5 Add in
the eyes by
drawing
too small
1’s. It will
look like the number 11!
Then add in the mouth with
whatever look you want
your monkey to have.
6 Finally,
colour in
your monkey
however you want
it to look. And why not
give it a name?
3 Draw two small
circle shapes either
side of the face to
make the ears.
Mighty Mouse
In Taiwan, a mouse was put into a viper’s cage as a snack
for the snake, but decided that it definitely did not
want to be dinner. It repeatedly attacked the viper
and, after a half-hour fight, the snake lay dead and
the mouse was left with hardly a scratch!

BALD BABOON
Bald Baboon
Reggie, a baby hamadryas baboon born in a zoo in
Devon, England, attracted a lot of attention because
of his unusual haircut. Reggie wasn’t meant to be
bald, but he had all the hair licked from the top of
his head by his over-attentive mom. She just wanted
to love him and keep him well-groomed, but little
Reggie ended up with no hair at all! Luckily, his mom
and all the other members of his family still totally
accepted him in their group with his new ‘do. Reggie and his mom popped out
to the wig shop.
One day she licked his head
so much his hair fell out!
Oh how Reggie cried, and his mom
was sad too.
His mom loved him soooo much!

after...
A Californian man was shocked and puzzled when he arrived
home to ind both his dog and his pet snake missing. He hunted
around his property and inally found his Burmese python, with
a large bulge in its stomach that was about the size of his Pit
Bull Terrier. The huge 200-lb snake had escaped from its cage,
swallowed the dog, and then hidden under the house to digest
its doggie dinner!
Tarantulas hunt at night, feasting
on animals such as frogs, birds
and lizards. They crush prey with
their large fangs.
A snake can
sleep with both
eyes open
