-At the feast there is a lot of talk about the new religion being a serious threat.
3. Conflicts
Okonkwo vs Self: If going back to Umuofia will be the right decision.
Young generation vs new religion: A lot of the elders fear that this new religion
is dangerous and could make a lot of the younger people in the clans
convert.
4. List of cultural norms, expectations, rituals and beliefs.
-Okonkwo providing a thank you feast for all the people that helped him in
Mbanta.
- People are breaking their expectations of staying true to their own religion
by converting to christianity.
5. Terms and Definitions
Omunna- a wide group of kinsmen. They use this word during the feast
referring to all the kinsmen Okonkwo invited.
Obi- Large living quarters for head of the family. Okonkwo has to build this by
himself when he returns to Umuofia.
6. Connections to today
-Elders being worried about new religions effect on younger generation
connects to elders being worried about the younger generation today.
Everything based off technology.
- Okonkwo wanting to go back to Umuofia and regain power. Connects to
today cause most people are power hungry and like to be the best of the
best.
7. Characters
Okonkwo- in last year of exile, desperately wants to return
to Umuofia, grateful for Mbanta people but regrets
missed opportunities in Umuofia.
Oldest Member of umunna- Wise old man who at the
feast talks about how worried he is for younger
generation and this new religion.
