A Song at Twilight: Of Alzheimer’s and Love is a feature-length memoir by acclaimed Minnesota
poet Nancy Paddock. The book tells the story of her parents’ near-parallel descents into the
netherworld of Alzheimer’s, and the challenges and choices for care that she and her sisters faced
while confronting this most baffling and tragic of diseases, now afflicting millions of people and
their families. Published by Blueroad Press, this is one daughter’s story of Lois and Ralph
Pearson, whose love of life and each other transcended the darkest moments of war, separation,
heartache and family tragedy to achieve a memorable state of grace spanning six decades of
marriage. Nancy Paddock lives and gardens in Litchfield, Minnesota, with her husband Joe. Her
poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including To Sing Along the Way:
Minnesota Women Poets From Pre-Territorial Days to the Present, The Writer Dreaming in the

Matt Hires with Rachel Platten
Tuesday, October 25, 9 pm
Bunker’s, 761 Washington Avenue North
When you listen to Matt Hires, what comes across is the sound of an artist self-assured, authentic
and at ease with being completely and utterly himself. On his debut release, Take Us To The Start,
the 23-year-old Florida native fuses the intimacy of the great singer/songwriters with indelible
pop/rock hooks and propulsive rhythms. The result is a mesmerizing collection of songs that are
immediately enchanting, while becoming more deeply rewarding with each listen. The album is
filled with delights, most notably Hires’ voice, an instrument striking in its warmth, expressiveness
and ability to convey a multitude of emotions within a single song. From the first notes of Honey,
Let Me Sing You A Song, Matt’s vocals envelop the listener, creating an intimate, captivating
realm. For information and tickets: http://www.suemclean.com/shows/matt-hires/?utm_source=

The book tells the story of her parents’ near-parallel descents into the netherworld of Alzheimer’s, and the challenges and choices for care that she and her sisters faced while confronting this most baffling and tragic of diseases, now afflicting millions of people and their families. Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including To Sing Along the Way: Minnesota Women Poets From Pre-Territorial Days to the Present, The Writer Dreaming in the Artist’s House, As Far As I Can See: Contemporary Writing of the Middle Plains, Beloved on the Earth: 150 Poems of Grief and Gratitude, From the Other World: Poems in Memory of James Wright, Farming Words and County Lines.
