Jumeirah
Frankfurt
BACKGROUND Luxury Dubai-
based group Jumeirah opened
its Frankfurt property in 2011.
The new-build tower in which it
is housed forms part of the city
centre’s Palais Quartier complex.
WHAT’S IT LIKE? The modern,
25-storey glass building is a
striking contrast to the Baroque
Thurn-und-Taxis Palace situated
outside the hotel’s entrance.
Inside, the décor is stylish and
sophisticated. A trail of crystals
suspended from the ceiling
guides guests from the concierge
desk, past the Ember bar to the
reception located beneath a huge
chandelier.The lifts have a clever
system that allows you to swipe
your card and select your floor
on the touchscreen display. It will
then indicate which of the five lifts
is on its way.
WHERE IS IT? Just off the busy
Zeil shopping street and next to
My Zeil mall, to which the hotel
has direct access. It is within
walking distance of the financial
district and main tourist sights,
and the nearest underground
station, Hauptwache, is 200
metres away. It’s 20-30 minutes by
taxi from the airport.
ROOM FACILITIES There are
218 guestrooms, including
50 suites, with categories ranging
from Deluxe rooms (35-40 sqm)
to the 220 sqm Presidential suite,
all with free wifi.The interiors
have pleasant walnut, honey
and nutmeg tones, with timber
floors, silk carpets and colourful
contemporary artwork by German
painter Hartwig Ebersbach.
My Skyline Deluxe room offered
impressive views of the city
through floor-to-ceiling windows.
A good-sized workdesk sat in the
middle of the room, dividing the
space in two – to the right was the
bed, and to the left a living area
with a chaise longue, armchair
and wardrobe with robes, slippers,
ironing board and safe.The desk
was equipped with international
plug sockets and USB/audio/
video outlets. Other technology
included a 42-inch TV, which
turned 360 degrees to be viewed
anywhere in the room, and a Bose
docking station. Bedside switches
controlled the curtains and
lighting. Motion and heat sensors
regulated the room’s temperature
automatically, but could also be
manually adjusted.
The open-plan bathroom had
sliding doors which could divide
it from the rest of the room.
There were cubicles for the toilet
and shower, as well as a tub and
L’Occitane toiletries. All in all, the
room was comfortable, spacious,
modern and quiet. Smoking
rooms are available on request.
RESTAURANTS AND BARS
The Lebanese El Rayyan, which
joins the lobby to the shopping
mall, is open 12pm-12am Monday
to Saturday, with belly dancing
on Friday and Saturday nights.
Upstairs, fine-dining eatery Max
on One serves German and
Austrian cuisine, which you can
watch being prepared in the
open kitchen. Look out for dishes
containing honey produced by
the hotel’s four rooftop hives
(it’s also used in some of the spa
treatments). Cosy Ember bar on
the ground floor is a peaceful
place for informal meetings.
BUSINESS AND MEETING
FACILITIES The third floor has
730 sqm of event space – the
Crystal ballroom is the largest,
seating 200 delegates theatre-
style. Four meeting rooms hold
between 20 and 60 people
theatre-style.There is also a
140 sqm pre-function area and a
24-hour business centre.
LEISURE FACILITIES Talise
spa on the fourth floor has seven
treatment rooms and separate
saunas for men and women.
Guests also have free access, via
the sixth floor, to My Zeil’s Fitness
First gym, which has Technogym
equipment and a 20-metre pool.
VERDICT This business-
oriented city-centre hotel is superb
both in terms of its location and
facilities. Service was friendly, too.
Highly recommended.
