Group dynamics and cohesion are important for team success. There are several stages of group formation that a team goes through (forming, storming, norming, performing) and the coach's role is to lead the team through each stage successfully. High cohesion involves both task cohesion (shared commitment to goals and objectives) and social cohesion (interpersonal attraction and bonding). The levels of cohesion can be affected by situational, personal, team, and leadership factors.
