3. Human Genome Project The human genome project was created in 1990.It finished in 2003,but it was Supposed to finish in 2005 but it finished earlier. The issues include topics as Biotechnology, ethical dilemmas, social and individual implications, health and Medical care, and scientific research. The genetic information no discrimination act was signed into law in May 2008 after 13 years of debate
4. Genetic Disorder Single gene order: A single gene disorder is the result of a single mutated gene. Chromosome abnormalities: Reflects an atypical number of chromosomes or a structural abnormality in one or more chromosomes. Multifactorial disorders:Genetic disorders may also be complex, multifactorial, or polygenic, meaning that they are likely associated with the effects of multiple genes in combination with lifestyle and environmental factors How can genetic counseling help perspective parents who have a genetic disorder regarding future children? Genetic counseling can help perspective parents who have a genetic disorder regarding future Children to see if they have a disease A normal human karyotype has 46 chromosomes: 22 pairs of autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes. What happens when a person has something different like Too many or too few chromosomes? Missing pieces of chromosomes? Mixed up pieces of chromosomes?
5. Argument 1 A good reason to create designer babies is that you can pick which sex it will be. There hair and eye color. What illnesses they can get, there height, what body type they will have, there IQ and personality type. That is good to be able to pick all the things above for your baby so that maybe they don’t get picked on for there body weight, eye color, hair color, and how dumb/smart they are, and if they will be popular or happy or nice or sad or mean because you get to chose there personality type. That will lead to a decline in the bullying that is going on in the world, which is the good thing for all the people who are being bullied or who have been bullied.
6. Argument 2 In 2004 the term designer baby made the transition from sci -fi movies and weblogs into the Oxford English dictionary where it is defined as “a baby whose genetic makeup has been artificially selected by genetic engineering combined with in vitro fertilization to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics. That means that the world is starting to recognize what a designer baby is and that the world we know it will change because of the scientific research done to try and create and actual “Designer Baby.”That could be used for saving someone’s life. It’s kinda like the book/movie My Sisters Keeper. Where the older sister has cancer and the parents conceive another baby that will be able to give the older sister body parts/blood all that stuff to save her life.
7. Argument 3 Another reason that we are for designer babies is Genetic screening can reduce the baby's chances of being born with several serious diseases like Down Syndrome , Famial hypercholesterolemia, rare blood disorders like Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. . Adam Nash was the world's first known designer baby born by the revolutionary pre-implantation process in the year 2000.Scientists genetically selected his embryo so that he would possess the right cells to save his dying sister's life. His sister suffered from Fanconi's anaemia (a blood disorder), and mostly the chances of Adam getting that disorder was very high. An embryo was chosen, which did not have Fanconi's anaemia. Adam became a donor to his sister, which doubled her chances of survival. It was the same case with Charlie Whitaker, who suffered from Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. His parents wanted to have a designer baby to save Charlie's life. Since they were denied the right in UK, they went to the US to have their baby. In 2003, Charlie's baby brother was born and the stem cells from his umbilical cord would be used to treat Charlie.
8. Argument 4 Parents in China sometimes will have an abortion if the baby is a female because they want a male to carry out there family name when they get married and the female will not do that if she gets married she’ll likely take her husbands name instead of keeping her maiden name. So if the parents are able to pick which gender there baby will be they will most likely pick a male if they want one, and that will lead to a down in the abortion rate in China or in any other country that wants a specific sex for there baby and they wind up with the opposite sex that they want, they will just be able to chose there babies sex, also if they wanted there baby to have any specific feature they will be able to chose those features before the birth of the baby.
9. Conclusion The government should give more money to designer babies so the parents will be happy with their new child instead of upset about the gender, there personality, brains, and looks. If the government would grant enough money to do more research for desginer babies the world would be a better place because more people would make better decisions and not do bad crimes like murders, robberys, suicides.
