3. A NEW GENERATION OF STATIONS: THE ESSENTIALS (1)
Functional and efficent
stations
offering easy transport
access to everyone in a
pleasant environment
RECOGNISABLE
For most stations, access will be
through a unique building located
at a crossroads. It plays the role of
a marker, bears the identity of the
transport network and exists in
harmony with its environment.
ACCESSIBLE
The space is designed
to facilitate access
for all passengers,
particularly for the
disabled.
FLOWING
Between the
ticket hall and
the platforms,
passenger paths
are direct, short
and natural.
WELCOMING
A covered, spacious and
airy hall opening onto the
town, with organised travel
services: information, ticket
sales, etc.
SAFE
Visual continuity of all spaces and
no long corridors provide a feeling
of security. The lighting, materials
and acoustics create a soothing
environment.

3. A NEW GENERATION OF STATIONS: THE ESSENTIALS (2)
Connected stations
Designed to facilitate changes
INTERMODAL
Access to bike and
footpaths and surface
transport (tram and bus) is
natural, safe and as simple
as possible.
EASY
From one line to
another, changes
are quick and
clear.
DIGITAL
The station will fully
embrace the latest IT
and communication
developments and provide
access to various digital
services: broadband,
e-commerce relay points, etc.
Source : SGP
16
3. A NEW GENERATION OF STATIONS: THE ESSENTIALS (3)
PRACTICAL
The shops and
services simplify
the everyday for
passengers and
locals, and contribute
to local urban vitality.
ATTRACTIVE
Around the station, the
town becomes more
structured. The station
area is compatible
with dense and mixed
property development.
LIVELY
The station areas
will host cultural and
artistic events; they
will be an extension
of the town itself.
Friendly
living stations
that create value

Editor's Notes

  1. Grand Paris Express stations : integrating them into their neighbourhoods. Underground stations are a major challenge for the city of the future. Beyond their functions as a gateway to the metropolitan area’s transportation network, the new Grand Paris Express stations will contribute to the development of the neighbourhoods served. Integrated into their environments and open to the city, the stations will be new living places serving travellers and neighbours, and public facilities for facilitating everyday life and intensifying urban development.
  2. The Societe du Grand Paris’ main mission is designing and mapping out the overall plan and the infrastructure projects which make up the Greater Paris public transport network. Moreover, Société du Grand Paris works in cooperation with the regional government representative to draw up and ensure the consistency of the regional development agreements. Partnership and consultation : - Ministry in charge of Grand Paris, Transport Ministry, Ministry of the Economy, Budget Ministry, Paris Prefecture, Police Prefecture, regional governmental delegations. with the local authorities : Municipalities, intercommunal bodies, Départements, and Ile-de-France Region. Transport partners : Transport Authority of Ile-de-France, RATP , SNCF , RFF , ADP . Associations of elected officials Association of Ile-de-France Mayors, Paris Metropolis Mixed Authority. In the socio-professional domain Grand Paris International Workshop, Public Land and Development Bodies for the Paris region, Consular Chambers of Commerce, Regional Development Agency for Paris Ile-de-France… strategic committee : A forum for debate and recommendation, it brings together mayors of all the areas affected by the infrastructure, EPCIs, representatives of the two Parliament Chambers, regional council chambers, Regional Economic and Social Council (regrouping professional and social organisations) and the areas that signed a Territorial Development Contract.
  3. 1. To reflect the new face of the city, open and connected to world flows : For example, by developing a range of services corresponding to international stakes in terms of welcome, mobility, comfort and information (packaged services, computer ticketing, computer ticketing via mobile phone, adapted and virtual services, multilingual signage, visibility, …) … 2. To build and design the Grand Paris stations so that they can be high performing interfaces for metropolitan mobility and proximity : For example, by improving interconnections (direct links), by developing a smart-mobility (real-time transport information, e-services, …) integrating a multimodal information and by creating suitable conditions for innovative digital products and services … 3. To promote an integrated approach of stations and territories development, ensuring a balanced and sustainable metropole : For example, by creating new synergies between territories and businesses, by connecting stations to the road network, by making of security a factor of economic success …
  4. It is essentiel to remind that, in a context of strong changes, where businesses have to innovate every day to remain competitive, the project Grand Paris must be able to take into account current and future evolutions of the society in all its aspects (mobility, consumption choices, technologies, …) 7 criteria have been defined to qualify the different types of stations according to their size, their objective, their economic dynamics (urban logistic, business center, economic cluster, …) and the societal evolutions (way of life, technological changes, the social role of the station as a refuge, …). These criteria will have to be anticipated and appreciated over time.
  5. Beyond mobility, the business leaders consider that the Grand Paris has to promote a urban and social revalorisation ot the surburbs (38 %) as well as a better quality of life in the area (38 %). They express strong hopes in terms of « urbanity » and new territorial approach.
  6. The Societe du Grand Paris has chosen an architectural strategy that combines these two approaches, in an effort to satisfy all the issues involved in building the Grand Paris Express network: - Urban issues: each station is designed as a specific answer to its geographical, urban, social and economic context. Its architectural shape creates a dialogue between the station and its surroundings so that the transport environment can exist harmoniously within its neighbourhood. Transport and network issues: the efficiency of an urban transport network depends on standards of service. These standards make it possible to create a space that is more userfriendly for travellers, to offer consistent solutions for technical, security and maintenance requirements; and to incorporate these stations into the Grand Paris transport network. Consequently, the architectural design of Grand Paris stations follows a dual design concept, one that is transversal and local, with the aim of building stations that are at once practical, welcoming and integrated into their neighbourhoods. Partnership between the Société du Grand Paris and ENSCI – Les Ateliers (Ecole nationale supérieure de création industrielle) to define and design an innovative information and services kiosk for the stations (which informations ? Which kind of services ? Material or virtual location ?)
  7. Every area has its station. Grand Paris stations will adapt to their new environment. Every station on the network will be designed according to the urban context and the place it will occupy. Stations in newly developing districts: these stations are part of existing or planned urban development projects to enhance and strenghten links between areas with fewer infrastructures.
  8. An efficient and functional station, offering everyone easy access to the network in a soothing environment. Public areas right up to the platforms; the access will be clear and direct. The station will welcome passengers in irreproachable safety, information and accessibility conditions.
  9. A station connected and organised to facilitate exchange. As soon as they open, nearly forty stations on the Grand Paris network will provide interconnections with the metro, RER and Transilien networks. From one metro line to another, changes will be clear and quick. Access and routes to footpaths, bike paths surface networks (tramway and bus) will be natural, safe and as short as possible.
  10. A station that creates value, a centre of life contributing to the appeal of the area and to its development. Spaces will be designed for cultural expression, services and a range of shops, defined according to the local context. And, the new station will be compatible with an associated property development, with urban housing and mixed activities.
  11. The Grand Paris stations will use the principles of visibility and spatial simplicity of existing stations and buildings, even as they are being further developed underground. An emergent building in an urban area, which in some cases will involve building a new structure, will provide fast and comfortable access to trains. They will constitute a new entrance to the Paris region network. This new effort will be efficiency led to integrate with urban development and meet the needs, demands and expectations of future passengers.
