In this presentation, Rishabh introduces the concept of SMAC and discusses trends. He is interested in using SMAC to create solutions that positively impact customer experience. The applications that he intends to develop will be available anytime and anywhere is what he says.

2. Overview
Social, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) are individual technologies and platforms which have
escalated during the past few years and have shown massive growth.
They together represent one integrated stack, where each function enables another to maximize their
effect.
This is the new enterprise IT model helps in delivering an organization that is more connective,
collaborative, real-time and productive.
SMAC creates an ecosystem that allows a business to improve its operations and get closer to the
customer with minimal overhead and maximum reach.
None of the four technologies can be an afterthought because it's the synergy created by social, mobile,
analytics and cloud working together that creates a competitive advantage, viewing SMAC technologies
as a “stack,” as an integrated architecture. Imagine your smartphone without its apps, disconnected from
the Web, the cloud and your personal networks. On its own, it would a very expensive pocket watch.
Example: Netflix, Inc. is a provider of on-demand Internet streaming media which uses SMAC as given
below:
Cloud : Content Streamed from cloud.
Mobile : Delivers on all devices including laptops, cellphones, gaming consoles etc.
Analytics : Big data analytics to provide recommendations and understand user behavior for creating
new content.
3. Reason for choosing SMAC & Future
SMAC in next five years
SMAC will continue to play a major role in the next five years, and it will be complemented by BYOD(Bring
Your Own Device) and the greater trend of consumerization in driving what products IT will invest in. The near
future of IT will ultimately be driven by connectivity with high boom in SMAC technologies and applications.
The escalation of these specific technologies and products in combination with IoT (Internet of Things) will
provide an exciting new framework.
Mushrooming startups across the globe exploiting SMAC will diminish the relevance of geography.
KLAC systems (Knows, Learns, Automates, Communicates) will leverage SMAC to deliver a very diverse level
of involvement & experience to the user/customer/consumer.
I selected SMAC because
It represent something that almost everyone relates to in everyday life. Everyone in
one way or the another is a consumer of SMAC.
One can create products and real time systems which impact millions of lives based on SMAC.
Immense interest in social media, mobile technologies, augmented reality & cloud computing.
What I intend to do if offered an internship
Learn & exploit SMAC stack for real world systems with prime focus on customer experience and satisfaction.
Design & develop a feature rich multiplatform note taking application module where the notes are saved in the
cloud, can be accessed from anywhere, any device be it a laptop, mobile or tablet, notes can be shared on
social media(Facebook, Twitter) and public notes can be analyzed for relevant data and trends. This
independent module can be integrated into applications as per customer’s demand and requirements.
4. Social & Mobile
Social
Over 1 billion social media subscribers globally.
Already disrupting traditional models of marketing and selling.
Facebook, Twitter, Linked among the most popular social media firms.
Social media help organizations by providing meaningful insights into the data created by social
website users so they can improve customer satisfaction, identify patterns and trends, and make
smarter decisions regarding marketing campaigns.
Mobility
Industry is shifting from PC/laptop to mobile devices.
4.5 billion mobile subscribers globally; nearly 900 million in India alone.
The spread of affordable 3g and 4g networks driving the growth of mobile apps.
Anytime, anywhere access to data has become critical for businesses to excel in today's
competitive environment.
5. Analytics & Cloud
Analytics
Analytics is the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data.
Every year, companies and individuals generate billions of gigabytes of data.
Companies which analyze and glean insights from this data can emerge as leaders.
Holds tremendous potential across industries like financial services, retail and pharma.
Big Data analytics helps businesses make better decisions by analyzing large volumes of
structured and unstructured data, predict and identify change and identify new opportunities such
as new business segments, best suppliers, associate products and sales seasonality.
Cloud
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services over the internet which allows
individuals & businesses to use software & hardware that are managed by third parties
at a remote location.
Has the potential to foster innovations and improve productivity across industries.
Everything from enterprise applications to our music is now using the cloud.
Can emerge as a tool for making computing more affordable in the developing world.
The benefits are low up-front costs, rapid return on investment, rapid deployment, customization,
flexible use and solutions that can make use of new innovations.
6. How SMAC helps businesses?
SMAC based solutions, when offered and deployed as a SaaS based model, have given businesses a real
opportunity to develop innovative solutions, increasing business productivity.
Leads to leveraging public IT infrastructure, lowering cost of ownership and deployment of innovative
applications that not only improve enterprise decision making capabilities but also allows them to roll out
new unprecedented business models and increase their reach to customers.
The convergence of these technologies means dismantling the traditional business design: No longer is it
required to keep people and information in the same location or to spend big money to support information
sharing, communication and collaboration.
It is enabling the creation of hyper-intelligent software platforms that address myriad issues, from sales to
customer service to the design of new products to the management process. In short, the SMAC stack does
not represent the next new technology to be “bolted onto” your existing business model. Instead, these
technologies will transform the business model itself.
SMAC is continuously spawning new, highly distributed,
virtualized business models with relentless focus on the
customer experience.
7. Conclusion
SMAC enables enterprises leverage the cloud for storing huge volumes of multi structured customer
data, generated over mobile devices and social media and analyze these data sets for business
advantage.
The impact that SMAC can have on making businesses agile in today's fast changing world is
undeniable. It helps in instant availability of information & intelligence and importantly, enables
immediate action based on this intelligence gained. However, it is important to ensure these solutions
