20-50 million tons of e-waste is
generated worldwide, persistent
organic pollutants and heavy
metals, are released from

easily accumulate in the human
body through the inhalation of
contaminated air

effect on our Environment?
• The sum of all the computers operated across the world today
accounts for more CO2 emissions than global air traffic.
• E-waste is another factor that is bothering us. 2.7% of the total
waste contaminating the environment around us is a part of e-
waste, and the problem that arises is that this waste is
continuously dumped into the surrounding without being
recycled.
• According the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the
average office worker in the US uses 10,000 sheets of copy
paper each year
• According to the Columbia University “ Guide to Green
Computing ”, if the paper used each year for personal computing
were laid end to end, it would circle the Earth more than 800
times

environment, & reduce energy
consumptions and environmental
waste.
Green IT start In 1992, when the US
Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) launched “Energy Star”, a
voluntary labeling program which was
designed to promote and recognize
energy efficiency in monitors, climate
control equipment, and other
technologies.

The goal of Green IT is to increase environmental sustainability throughout the
entire Computer lifecycle along the following four complimentary paths:
 Green use — reducing the energy consumption of computers and other
information systems as well as using them in an environmentally sound manner
 Green disposal — refurbishing and reusing old computers and properly recycling
unwanted computers and other electronic equipment
 Green design — designing energy-efficient and environmentally sound
components, computers, servers, cooling equipment, and data centers
 Green manufacturing — manufacturing electronic components, computers, and
other associated subsystems with minimal impact on the environment

compliances, for that reason majority
of IT professionals unaware with this
state of art environmental IT practice
