In March 2012 the United Enterprises Co Ltd and Gunze Ltd of Japan entered into an agreement to set a up a joint
venture company- the Gunze United Ltd , registered in Bangladesh , with 50: 50 share capital. The company will
produce and market Gunze brand of sewing threads in Bangladesh and abroad. The current production capacity is
2400 tons a year. The company’s office is located in the factory.
The factory has been constructed on the four plots ( total area 8481 sq m) in the extension area of Dhaka EPZ.
The factory building is a 3 storied concrete-steel structure, having floor space of 105,000 sq ft. In near future on
completion of the 4th floor , the total floor space will 135, 000 sq ft. The unique feature of this factory is that it has
out sourced its requirement of steam from the UPGD ( a concern of United Group) and has plugged into the Central
ETP through a pipe line, making this factory lean and clean. It is equipped with all the best machineries from Japan
and China.
The construction work started in 03 September 2012 and completing on 20th November 2013. The inaugural ceremony
was held on 20th November 2013, which was attended by Maj Gen Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan the Executive
Chairman as the chief guest, and His Excellency Mr Shiro Sadoshima as special guest, besides top officials of both
the share holding companies.
