1. Ambrose could hardly believe Julian
was due to age up into a child.
Between working, childcare and
her burgeoning friendship with
neighbour Alfred his time as a
toddler had flown by.
He was a cheerful kid, who
thankfully was taking after her
rather than his absent father. She
had taught him to walk, talk and
use the potty – she couldn’t wait to
see what he would be like a little
older.
2. Julian kept his colouring in common with his
mother, and now older he looked even more like
her than before. He seemed a bit quieter than
before though – Ambrose hoped it was just the
excitement of his birthday getting to him.
3. He seemed happy enough
though, and that was enough for
Ambrose.
4. Megan was spending a
lot of time at the
Poeson’s house next
door. When Allain
wasn’t in, she and
Edward would hang out
until he came home.
They would watch
TV, play chess…
5. … eventually Edward started asking for
her help in planning the criminal
activities of his organisation. To his
frustration, Allain had never been very
good at that side of things. He could
follow orders perfectly but not plan.
6. Megan had been reading books on
business since her early
childhood, creating business plans
for her parents that had always
been ignored. Now was her
moment.
Edward was astonished at the
depth and breadth of her
knowledge, and even found himself
asking her advice now and again.
The business stuff was fun, and Megan
enjoyed learning how to manage criminal
networks, create plan B’s, C’s and D’s and
utilise corrupt officials. Working for Edward
was like having a teacher in the dark arts.
7. She loved the feeling of knowing things other people
didn’t. The thrill of being on the other side of the
law, of being different and dangerous. She felt like she
was being appreciated by Edward, whereas her
parents had always ignored or dismissed her.
8. Bernice loved being married to Gracie, but something had
been bothering her recently. She couldn’t put her finger on
it, but there was something missing.
9. Slowly she began to realise what it
was. Sharing a house with Ambrose
and Julian was making her broody.
But there was no way she and Gracie
could afford to have a child of their
own. It would either mean expensive
test tube stuff or the scary lottery of
sperm donation.
10. She and Gracie had a long chat about
it. Gracie loved having Julian around as
well, and they soon came to the
conclusion both of them wanted a
family ASAP.
But how to go about it?
11. Teresa was thrilled her for her friend and
immediately assumed she would be
adopting. Bernice was stunned, how had
she and Gracie forgotten that option?
