The objective of the project was to strengthen capacity for using treated wastewater in forestry and agroforestry production to improve livelihoods in North Africa. Arid regions have little water and forest cover, making water the limiting factor for local populations and economies. The project established phyto-remediation plants in Algeria using treated wastewater for irrigation and designed forested green belts in Morocco and Egypt also using treated wastewater. It supported demonstration projects in Tunisia on using treated wastewater in forestry and agroforestry.
