Success Stories – Jeff Oleniacz
Jeffery Oleniacz was looking for an opportunity to begin his career in the IT Field. He had a background in web
and print design and HTML fundamentals, and has a degree in Anthropology, but lacked the credentials to validate
his skills. Through hard work and dedication, he completed earned his Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician
(CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certifications and was able to make a career change.
“I chose ITCL because the courses were at a quick enough pace
that I could get the certifications done sooner than some other
programs I researched. I have always been a good student, so it
was attractive for me to learn faster so I could be prepared with
the skills I needed for employment right away. The job
readiness training was also a feature that swayed my final
decision since I had not had formal employment for several
years. At IT Career Lab I was able to gain the technical skills I
desired while also preparing for the tricky task of navigating a
difficult job market”.

IT Career Lab is unlike any other CCNA certification program. Many schools offer CCNA certifications priced lower and higher than our $6,500 price tag. Our own experience with IT interns (National Able Network has had more than a dozen over the past year or so) however, is that many may perform well with classroom assignments and tests, but cannot do the work. Why? Because they have never applied their skills in a real network environment. IT Career Lab integrates weekly live Cisco lab exercises so students will be able to apply what they are learning. Students interested in Cisco certifications should also be sure the school is a bona fide Cisco Academy, that uses current Cisco-developed curriculum that is relevant to what companies actually have deployed in their IT environments today.Students need to be especially cautious of CCNA “boot camps” that offer short, intensive courses and promise high certification pass rates. These courses are typically suitable only for individuals with considerable networking experience who know how to do the work and just lack the certificate. They do NOT prepare the novice for a job working on Cisco networks.IT Career Lab also invests in the employment and career futures of its students by integrating weekly Job Readiness Workshops that have been nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. Our location is also wheelchair accessible.

Benefits of the program - Students will receive a new Windows-configured laptop the first week of class, and are awarded ownership upon graduation. Broadband access is also provided for students who do not have Internet service in their homes. The CCNA exam is taken in two parts; students are prepared for the first part about half way through. Each test costs $150 ($300 total for both), but Cisco discounts the price by 58% for students who maintain an 80% in their coursework. We direct student to get 85% or better on their practice test and simulation test. The IT Career Lab works with a number of employers who may offer internships to our students after the conclusion of the first half of the program. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to get workplace exposure and experience. We presume these may be unpaid internships but are working with employers to ask about stipends and paid positions.
Applications for spots in one of IT Career Labs next classes are available (only) online at www.itcareerlab.org. If potential student has a case managers as their class is being funded through WIA, they should still go through the website, and will be contacted within 3 business days. ACI staff will schedule the interview; complete and submit exploration /admit forms to keep them informed of the applicant’s status.
