SECTION
To redevelop Rome into a sequence
of paths in which people have the
opportunity to relish the historical
center and its ancient architecture,
while in the presence of water.

scheme
PLAN
The proposal of a new innovative
culinary art school aims to
rejuvenate the historic Hadrian’s
Athenaeum and its surrounds, while
unlocking the urban development
and civic potential of the area.
It seeks to inspire exemplary
facilities that will educate and
re-ignite local Italian food
tradition and be an internationally
recognised symbol of Rome. The site
offers us the opportunity to build
a new relationship between past
and present, and the individual
and the collective through
architecture and urban design in the
context of a historically complex
and dynamic city environment.

FOOD LABORATORY
INTERIOR
“Modern ruins, as tangible remnants of
the recent past, offer the potential to transport us
radically beyond the experience of the everyday
to a unique space of transition between past and
present, the affect of which is heightened by its
proximity in time to the moment of immediate
experience. As representations of the broader
transience of history, they fracture the notion of
progress, of finite beginnings and endings, of
distinct readings of past events – they are spaces
in which the conflict between a dead past and an
accessible, readable history plays out.”

detail in fragmentation
DIAGRAMMATIC maquette
111 Commercial Road, Port
Adelaide
The weathering of materials
over time leaves behind fragments of
what was once an occupied and used
building. The political, aesthetic
and historical significance that
come in the form of these fragments
tell stories of what shaped the city
we live in now. When thought about
in the historical context of Port
Adelaide, the act of retention can
be interpreted to one that preserves
or refurbish, through photography.

Medium Casting Plaster, Curtain Lace
Media Print
Size 130mm x 130mm
Something old, something new and something borrowed.
A closer image of the downpipe printed over curtain
lace. The lace was applied before the tile set, creating
a rises and falls in the surface of the plaster.

Medium Casting Plaster
Media Print
Size 130mm x 130mm
A rare find when the wall erodes and the brick exposed to
the eye.
The casting plaster was smoothed with sand paper. The
texture is somewhat rough. The material has absorbed
the red ink, defining the colour, making it bolder.

Medium Casting Plaster, Bamboo, Lace Curtain
Media Print
Size 130mm x 130mm
The state of being; the touch, the smell and the eye.
Mixed material provides different textures. Provides
a raw feel to the surface. Enhances tactile ability
N E P T U N E
Medium Casting Plaster, Blue Acrylic Paint, Curtain
Lace
Media Print
Size 130mm x 130mm
The bluest of surfaces.
Blue acrylic paint is swirled into the plaster,
and a piece of curtain lace was layered on top
and cased. The darker blue does not allow
for much detail to be seen, however the red
brick emerges with the tinge of purple ink.

collage
Using images of both my
own and borrowed images, the aim
was to make a collage of our
project to date. It is to be an
expansive, hybrid representation
- a fictocritical visual essay
– that seeks to loosen up our
hold on the ‘completed’ project
of ADS9, identify the best bits
and leave the weaker parts.

urbanity [final]
Designing urban
fragments scattered over the
public realm. For this scheme,
four plaza spaces were designed,
all with a similar language and
with the use of water to tie the
plaza spaces together. Water in
Rome is some of the most richest
minerals for the life source of
the human being, clean fresh
water is drinkable from all taps.

Tatachilla cellar door
Design Studio 5
PERSPECTIVE
This project is the
design of a cellar door facility
for the Tatachilla Vineyard at
Clarendon in McLaren Vale, South
Australia. The project calls for
a building that considers the role
of a cellar door as the public
interface of the vineyard, and
asks how such a facility might
contribute to the appreciation
of the wine, the vineyard,
the landscape and the unique
characteristics of the area.
