SHOULD PARENTS CONTINUE WORKING
EVEN IF THEIR CHILDREN ARE VERY
              YOUNG?
Introduction video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOv2LTVRAFE&feature=related
Evaluation

 Researches had shown that in every ten
families, four of them had both parents
working and leaving their children at home.
 As such, their child is either being placed
under the care of their grandparents or in the
  childcare centre.
Should parents continue working even if their children
                  are very young?

       •Argument:
2 •Reasons For / Against

       • Conclusion

Reasons for: Financial

 Parents are able to get a double salary to
support the family due to the high cost of
  living in Singapore.
 Keep up with the tough competition in
Singapore. The cost to raise children is very
high and it is getting even higher as time goes
  on.
Reasons for: Financial

 It is to secure the family’s future. To pay for
their children’s education and school fees.
Children may suffer if there is the lack of
  income from the parents.
Do you know?

 According to the federal government, "It takes
about SGD$8,490 to SGD$14,320 dollars to
support a child in the first year alone.” This
excludes the family’s utility bills, healthcare
and some, having elderly parents to support.
 Reports had shown that “a child’s
kindergarten fees can be as expensive as the
fee paid by a student attending a university”.
Reason Against: Financial

 If one person’s salary is enough to cover the
family’s expenses, then one of the parents
  should consider staying at home.
Reasons for: Relationship with relatives

 They can ask the child’s grandparents /
relatives to look after the children, so they can
learn some knowledge from them such as a
  language during that age.
 They can be very happy being with their
grandparents who love children so much.
 They can adapt with different environment
when they are taken care of by them.
Reasons against: Relationship with relatives
 Children are dependent on their parents
  when they are young.
 One of the parents should after the child so
that the parent could see their children grow
up and build better bonds between them.
 They can help the child learn how to
appropriately express emotions, and create a
  loving bond.
 This bond will ensure that they know what
their children are doing, how to make them
happy, and when something is wrong.
Reasons For: Caregiver

 They can hire a caregiver for their children so
they need not worry for them when they are
at work. They can also send them to child day
  care center.
Reasons Against: Caregiver

 Leaving children with the caregiver may not
  be fully trusted.
 They do not show love and concern to them
because it is not their own children.
 According to the news in Chongqing, China,
some domestic workers help the children to
shower by putting them into washing
machines, and eventually cause the deaths of
  children.
Reasons for: Independency and Skills

 While playing with other children in the child
day-care centre, it improves the children’s
  social skills.
 It is as important as interacting with the family
members. They can also be a little more
  independent.
 Inculcating independence in a child is a
  necessary life skill.
Reasons for: Independency and Skills

 Moreover, some parents have the skills and
knowledge. Singapore needs people with the
skills required due to the talent drainage.
 When both parents work, there will be more
people to contribute to the society and also
  diversify the country’s economy.
Reasons Against: Independency and Skills

 When two parents work all the time and don't
spend enough time with their kids, this makes
the kids think working is more important
than family and later when the kid grows up,
he/she won’t listen too much to the parents.
 Because he/she is going to feel like they were
  never around.
Reasons Against
 Sometimes kids will bottle up emotions and
situations not having a parent to run to.
 This may cause emotional problems and
  disorders.
Should parents continue working even if their children
                  are very young?

CONCLUSION:

SHOULD BOTH PARENTS CONTINUE
What is your view??
WORKING EVEN IF THEIR CHILDREN
ARE VERY YOUNG?
NOT REALLY…

So, should parents continue
working even if their children
      are very young?
SOME FINAL REASONS AGAINST IT:
 Stay-at-home Moms- teach their children that
nothing is more important than family.
 They teach their children that taking care of
the home is an important job as well.
 What is more important than family?
 A career may be important, but a family is
  more important.
 IT ALSO SOLELY DEPENDS ON THE
  FAMILY’S SITUATION.
