2. SYNOPSIS
Following three young men of various sexualities and a bisexual
woman with a child, discussing their experiences with sexual
education and how it has effected their intimate relationships.
This lighthearted, interview-focused documentary reveals the
truth about the lack of sexual education and how people really
learn about sex in their adult lives.
3. TREATMENT
RESEARCH EVIDENCE AND CONTEXT
Sexual Education is taught in the education system through the PSHE programme and National Curriculum launched in September
1999 in the UK. And according to Gov.uk: The objective of sex and relationship education is to help and support young people
through their physical, emotional and moral development. But there is the argument that it has a lack of variety in terms of
sexuality, only focussing on heterosexual sex in a majority of school. More importantly, PSHE being cut for a period of time and
brought back but with less importance and being very brief lessons. With the political parties such as the Green Party demanding
PSHE to be made compulsory, this has become a growing issue in current politics.
We discuss these issues with four individuals of a variety of sexualities and backgrounds. They express their views on the education
system tackle issues such as contraceptive methods, homosexual relationships and sexually transmitted diseases. We tackle this
issue with humour and light-hearted atmosphere.
VISUAL / STYLE IDEAS Through use of child-like elements, we create juxtaposing situations that bring a sense of irony and lift the
mood of the film and topic covered.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Raymond is a freelance photographer and Film Production student who identifies as asexual. He tells his humorous stories about
his reactions to sexual education at a young age in secondary school. He is sitting in a low-lit lecture hall, he tells the crew of his
experience with learning about masturbation. He’s laughing at himself.
Sophie is an 18 year old single mother of one who identifies as bisexual. She talks about how her sexual education has affected her
life and her experiences having a child at an early age. She sits on her sofa at her home in Surrey. She talks about her lifestyle as a
mother of one child and how she was taught about sex. She also discusses when and how she discovered she was bisexual.
Jamie is a young gay man who has had difficulty with the relationship with his parents and grandparents in coping with his sexuality.
He sits on a chair in his grandfather’s home on a farm in Petersfield. He has very little contact with his grandfather, despite living in
the same home.
Harley is a 21 year old Fine Art student from Farnham, who does not identify as anything sexually. He sits on a sofa in the Jolly Sailor
pub in Farnham, drinking a pint of beer. He talks about his ‘dangerous’ stories related to his experiences in sexual education.
