Location: Sitting on the corner of South Franklin Street and Bellows Street we are
conveniently located just off of Central Michigan University’s campus.
Our building is a cozy red house turned coffee shop. It offers more than
enough space for study tables, lounging areas, a meeting/living room
and a small stage. We are only steps away from the graduating housing
and Sloan Hall.
History: Opened in 2014 by international graduate student and business major,
Ike Han, the coffee shop started as a dream. When Ike found out the
building was up for sale he took the golden opportunity to start his very
own coffee shop. With the help of his family in China, Ike was able to
purchase the building and completely redecorate it to make it more open
and warm. During the planning and first few days many CMU students
contributed to the shop’s growth. The shop soon became a place for
customers to enjoy art, great tea and delicious coffee.
Description: Ran by a group of people chasing their dreams, Dreamers is an all
around local small business owned and operated by CMU students. Our
coffee beans are purchased from a Grand Rapids roaster and our
pastries from a local bakery, Sweet Tooth Bakery. We have 7 types of
bubble tea and 9 types of whole leaf tea. We also have three different
pour overs and 12 other types of coffee. Customers will enjoy an
unprecedented level of service and a welcoming atmosphere. Our goal
is to make sure our products are the best.

has

an

month. Each month The Dreamer selects a local artist and displays their art around the
coffee shop.
“Giving students the spot light they may not have had before is very important to us,” Event
Coordinator and Art Director Jeremiah Bell said. “We want to support our local art community.”
This month The Dreamer Coffee Shop named CMU junior, Tate Verduin, Artist of the Month. Her art
can be seen all around the coffee shop. Verduin’s pieces include drawings and paintings.
“I love being able to display my art at Dreamer. It’s a great, relaxing environment for students to
enjoy hot drinks, art and music,” Tate said. “It also presents another outlet of promotion for my work
and provides another opportunity for my work to be seen.”
Bell said Tate really stuck out among other artist because her art is organic and colorful. He also
admires her creative ability and originality.
Verduin began her interest in art at the age of 5. She started with sewing and later picked up painting.
“As a child, I spent many days at my grandparent’s house. My Mawmaw began to teach me to use a
sewing machine and how to cut patterns from fabric,” the Mississippi native said. “For my fifth
Christmas, I made my own Christmas dress and wore it to my grandparent’s house for dinner.”
Tate also created bags from The Dreamer’s recycled coffee bags. Her handmade bags are up for sale
at the coffee shop. Her art will be on display until mid-March when the next artist of the month is
chosen.
Anyone interested in entering the competition can contact Jeremiah Bell at artbyjaybell@gmail.com
or (989) 317-8358.

Ready, set...create.
Students and members of the Mount Pleasant community flowed into Dreamer
Coffeehouse March 21 from to be a part of the speed art competition. The competition
allowed competitors to show off their artistic abilities and be entered to win multiple
prizes.
The winner of the contest and senior at Central Michigan University, Jamie Morse,
received five free drinks from the coffee shop, a feature on the Facebook page, a free
ticket to the upcoming Tree Love event and her own art show at the coffeehouse. The
winner also will be featured as Dreamer's 'Artist of the Month.'
There were five contestants competing, making it a very close competition. The artists
were allowed to choose whatever medium they wanted, and only had two hours to
create. Morse decided to create a painting on a log based off of a sketch she had done.
"I usually paint on wood or logs over canvas because of the way the colors show," said
Morse. "I don't like using very bright colors but I like what they do. The wood soaks up
the color way more than a regular canvas, giving it more of a matte finish instead of a
glossy one."
