2. The camera obscura, darkened chamber/room is an optical
device that projects an image of its surroundings on a
screen. It is used in drawing and for entertainment, and was
one of the inventions that led to photography and the
camera. The device consists of a box or room with a hole in
one side. Light from outside passes through the hole and
strikes a surface inside where it is reproduced, upside-down,
but with colour and perspective preserved. The image can be
projected onto paper, and can then be traced to produce a
highly accurate representation.

3. Sir John F.W Herschel was born on 7th March 1792 and died on 11
May 1871 (aged 79). His parents were called Mary Baldwin and
fellow astronomer Sir William Herschel. He was the father of 12
children. In his career of astronomy he named seven moons of
Saturn and four moons of Uranus. His most famous contribute to
photography was cyanotype.
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that gives a
cyan-blue print. The process was popular in engineering
circles well into the 20th century. The simple and low-cost
process enabled them to produce large-scale copies of
their work, referred to as blueprints. Two chemicals are
used in the process:
• Ammonium iron(III) citrate
• Potassium ferricyanide.

4. The first moving image was invented from a bet by
Eadweard Muybridge, Eadweard believed that a horse
lifted all legs up at one point while running. So he placed
12 cameras. All the same distance apart, all the camera
took a picture and when he put all the pictures together it
developed the first moving image. He did prove his point as

5. The first Kodak cameras were created in 1888, the first
cameras were evolved from the camera obscura, and
kept changing through the ages like things such as
daguerreotypes, calotypes, dry plates, film, and digital
cameras etc.

6. Oskar Barnack was in charge of research and development
at Leitz ( a camera company), started to investigate using
35 mm film for cameras while trying to build a compact
camera capable of making high-quality enlargements. He
built the prototype in 1913 but further development was
through world war 1. The camera was put into market at
1925.

7. The instant camera is a type of camera
that generates a developed film image.
The most popular types to use self-
developing film were formerly made by
Polaroid Corporation.
The invention of modern instant cameras
is generally credited to American scientist
Edwin Land, who unveiled the first
commercial instant camera, the Land
Camera, in 1948, a year after unveiling
instant film in New York City. The earliest
instant camera, which consisted of a
camera and portable darkroom in a single
compartment, was invented in 1923 by
Samuel Shlafrock.

8. Digital cameras differ from their analog
predecessors primarily in that they do not use
film, but capture and save photographs on
digital memory cards or internal storage
instead. Their low operating costs have
relegated chemical cameras to niche markets.
Digital cameras now include wireless
communication capabilities (for example Wi-Fi
or Bluetooth) to transfer, print or share photos,
and are commonly found on mobile phones.
