Dear Colleagues: 
 
The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. in cooperation with the National Commission 
for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS), the National 
Library of the Philippines, and the National Committee on Resource Description and Access (NCRDA) will be 
holding  a  three‐day  National  Training  on  RDA  with  the  theme  "Resource  Description  and  Access  (RDA) 
Essentials: Preparing Librarians for New Cataloging Standards and Guidelines" to be held  at the Montebello 
Villa Hotel, Cebu City on 26‐28 June 2013. 
 
Specific objectives are to: 
 Give an overview of RDA, emphasizing the core elements in RDA and other elements identified as 
core for LC; 
 Recognize the changes from AACR2 to RDA; 
 Learn the guidelines in recording attributes of FRBR entities; 
 Understand the conceptual entity‐relationship module FRBR and its relationship to RDA; 
 Learn how to use the RDA Toolkit; and, 
 Apply the new cataloging standard RDA in practice to create bibliographic records for monographs 
according to RDA rules encoded in the MARC21 Format. 
 
We have invited top‐level professionals and experts with a deep knowledge of, and experience in Cataloging, 
namely: Mrs. Corazon M. Nera, Mrs. Mila M. Ramos, Mr. Rodolfo Y. Tarlit, Prof. Ruben P. Marasigan, Ms. Ana 
Maria B. Fresnido, Dr. Sonia M. Gementiza, and Ms. Susan O. Pador. Our resources speakers have successfully 
completed  the  recently  concluded  trainors'  training,  conducted  by  Dr.  Barbara  B.  Tillett,  Chair  of  the  Joint 
Steering Committee for Development of RDA.  
 
Librarians, catalogers, library administrators, and faculty of LIS are invited to participate in the training. For 
live‐in participants, a conference fee of Php4,500 will be charged inclusive of 3 days/2 nights accommodation 
with meals and snacks, seminar kits, handouts, and certificates.  Accompanying persons of live‐in participants 
will be charged Php3,500 to cover the cost of accommodation and breakfast only. Live‐out participants will 
only  pay  a  conference  fee  of  Php4,000  with  lunch  and  snacks,  seminar  kits,  and  certificates.    CHED  memo 
endorsements are being applied.   
 
Please make reservations as early as possible and also pay the training fee in cash or check payable to the 
Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians. Cash or Checks may be deposited to our BPI Family
