Dear Colleague(s),
Warm greetings!
The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL), is pleased to
invite you to its 3rd
Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series 2014 with the topic, “Staying
Relevant: Understanding Self-Directed Learning for Library and Information
Professionals”. This professional activity will be held on 17 September 2014, 1:00PM
to 3:30PM at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City, during
the 35th
Manila International Book Fair (MIBF).
The lecture series, named in honor of our founding president Ms. Marina G. Dayrit, aims
to provide a fertile learning environment for new ideas and enlightened discussions
among library and information professionals in the country.
Staying relevant in the field is key to further develop one's value as a library and
information professional. Hence, this forum primarily aims to motivate librarians to
enhance their learning capacity through self-directed instruction, maximizing other
learning avenues aside from traditional modes known to them. The lecture specifically
intends to:
(1) provide an overview on the importance of keeping current with new
developments in the field and how to approach them;
(2) foster better appreciation of the open learning environment as an avenue for
one’s self-education and independent learning; and
(3) learn more about open online courses such as MOOCs, blended learning,
distance education, webinars, and the like.
Registration starts at 12 noon. Registration fees are at Php300 for members, Php350 for
non-members and Php200 for students to cover for light snacks and certificate.
You may also renew and apply for membership during the forum. Fees are at Php200 for
individual and Php500 for institutional members. More information about membership
will also be available at the registration/secretariat’s desk.
Thank you and we look forward to your full support to PAARL, Inc.
Very truly yours,
CHRISTINE M. ABRIGO
Vice President / Conference Chair
