While vacations are important for physical and mental health, many workers check work emails and take calls even while on vacation (known as "workations"). A survey found that 82% of employees check in with work daily while on vacation. Working on vacation has become common as technology allows people to work remotely. However, unused vacation days cost the U.S. economy $34 billion annually in lost vacation pay. The survey also found that working on vacation can negatively impact feelings of rest, reconnection with family, and productivity upon returning to work.
