2. GUITARS
Definition: Stringed musical instrument with closed box
and opening in the middle; with mast and six strings are
pressed with fingers.
The main types of guitars are:
SPANISH GUITAR
Origin and evolution:
Has over 500 years, was born in southern Spain, and
comes from the Arabic and Latin culture.
The first guitars were animal gut strings, tied the neck and
eventually began to spread to Europe and South
American developed construction techniques.
Was in eighteenth century when it adopted the aspect,
that with six strings and the one we know at the present
time.
Types of Spanish guitar:
Classical guitar: Sound deep and sensitive. Is used
interpret classical pieces.
Flemish guitar: Has a bright and powerful sound. Is used
for flamenco.
3. Parts of the Spanish guitar:
Soundboard: The body of the guitar. It’s hollow.
Strings: There are six of nylon.
Bridge: Over the strings are fastened at the bottom.
Neck: Narrow part of the guitar on with to place the
fingerboard, which is the tone produced by the division in
frets.
Headstock: Where the strings are wound taut more or
less for tuning the guitar, moving the pegs.
Sound hole of guitar: Opening of the soundboard, with
rosette around.
4. ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Origin and evolution:
200 years ago traveled to North American guitar which
was modified in form and sound to become what we call
acoustic guitar.
Differences with the Spanish guitar:
Soundboard: Is larger and this gives more power of
sound. Also has a pickguard to protect play with pua.
Strings: The strings are metal.
Bridge: More reinforced.
Neck: Is narrower and more reinforced with a metal bar
inside fingerboard and frets.
Headstock: Is different and more compact.
Sound hole : Is similar to the Spanish guitar.
5. ELECTRIC GUITAR
Origin and evolution of electric guitar:
80 years ago in the mid thirties is placed to a special
microphone called pick up in acoustic guitar, which
reflects the vibrations of the strings, and becomes
connected to an electric sound amplifier. With
technological advancement were improved building
techniques, arriving at the actual electric guitar.
Little by little introduced sound effects as reverb,
distortion, delay, chorus, others and midi music, that
have made the electric guitar a very important
instrument in the history of pop, blues and rock.
6. PARTS OF THE ELECTRIC GUITAR:
Differences with the acoustic guitar:
Electronic Installation with pickups and controls.
Body: It is not hollow, but compact and solid having no
natural resonance, and no sound hole . Takes pick guard
bigger and stronger.
Neck and fingerboard: Similar to acoustic guitar
Strings: There are six metal.
Bridges: Stronger than the acoustic guitar and is of metal.
Pickups: Is where it collects sound.
Headstock: Compact and reinforced.
Controls: Volume and tone.
Output connector: To carry the sound to the amplifier.
Pick up selector: Move the slider according to the sound
