Stories of Thanksgiving
1.
2. History tells us
that in 1620 the
first Europeans
travelled to
North America to
start a new life.
3. If you think
about it, these
Pilgrims were
actually
transferees in a
group move . . .
4. . . . and the ones
who survived the
treacherous
journey were
very thankful to
reach the New
World.
5. Today, Paragon Relocation has helped many
transferees and assignees with difficult
moves . . .
Maybe not as difficult as the
Pilgrims’ voyage on the Mayflower
but here are two tales
of Thanksgiving for the
service and care our
transferees received as
they discovered their
own New Worlds.
7. Chapter One
An assignee and his wife were on assignment in Shunde, Guangzhou, China. The
assignee was in the course of repatriation whereby the repatriation authorization had
not been received by Paragon from the client.
One morning, the assignee’s wife had a stroke and the doctor in Shunde advised
them to go to Hong Kong for further medical observation and treatment. To cross the
China/Hong Kong border, the assignee would need his passport, which was in the
hands of the mover for custom clearance purposes.
The Paragon Consultant coordinated between the assignee, the mover and the client
HR contact to make sure the immigration documents were ready for the assignee, and
at the same time, an approval for obtaining a re-application for the visa.
With the Paragon Consultant’s assistance, the assignee and his wife made it to
Hong Kong, but then they could not find a hotel. The Paragon Consultant stepped in
to help and remained in constant contact, day and night, to secure accommodations
and provide the assignee some needed support.
8. Chapter Two
Throughout the subsequent days, the Paragon Consultant stayed in touch with
the assignee to make sure everything was alright. The assignee genuinely
appreciated the extra care Paragon provided during a very difficult time.
The doctor in Hong Kong recommended that the assignee’s wife return to
Northern Ireland for treatment and rest. The Paragon Consultant contacted the
client to seek approval for an exception to travel back to Europe, and it was
immediately obtained and executed.
Comments From Assignee: “Otis was, as usual, exemplary. His knowledge of the
policy and procedures is second to none. His support through Paragon and his
swift action made my wife's medical evacuation so much quicker as he arranged to
have our passports returned, which had been handed over to the local Chinese
Government as part of our visa application, allowing us to go to Hong Kong.”
10. Chapter One
An executive level transferee was relocating from Italy to New York City. The packing
and loading of the household goods proceeded perfectly.
The shipment arrived and cleared customs on schedule. Since the goods were being
delivered to an apartment in the city, parking permits were needed along with reserving
the elevator.
All was going very well – the team arrived on time, the elevator was available and the
homeowner was directing the team on where to place all the items. When it came time
for the dining room table and a couch to be moved, everything changed.
These items would not fit into the elevator, so the team decided to bring them up the
stairs, except the items would not fit into the stairway. The items went back on the truck
and they continued with the rest of the move.
The Paragon Consultant was in constant contact with the carrier. When it was
determined that the large furniture items would not make it into the apartment the
conventional way, they came up with a plan to hoist the items through a window in their
4th floor apartment. The Paragon Consultant ordered a survey for the following week (at
an additional charge) to see if it was even possible.
11. Chapter Two
As it turned out, it was going to be possible to bring the table and couch through
the window. The Paragon Consultant went back to the client for approval – and it was
approved!
The parking permit and the necessary permit from the city to hoist the items
through the window were obtained. The building superintendent took charge of
removing the window, while the workers organized the rigging equipment.
In record time, both the table and couch were pulled through the window and
neatly placed in the apartment. The superintendent then replaced the window.
The transferee and his wife were thrilled to have the table and couch in their
apartment and it was a wonderful conclusion to their international relocation.
