- That it has a sure place in a school setting, and offers many features to help achieve purpose. It has been clear that it is an opportunity to have students understand and own their own learning process
- Time and more tuition with the tool per se as a recurring themeWhat I observe is that : - Maybe not the skills to use the tool effectively - limited access to devicesNeed for a reliable open infrastructure But all this is coming and those who have showed willingness to engage will hit the ground running when all these planets align!They will be able to move from “making it up as they go along” from using content to creating content.How to continue to support and nurture this willingness to engage?
- When the ws is over teachers go back to students, timetable and much of this preoccupies themIt does take time for them to connect that what they ve experienced in the myportfolio workshop is in fact helpful for all of this. And the time it takes to realise that myportfolio enables collecting selecting reflecting on any evidence of learning does vary! But the seed is planted.
- My own professional learning has been much enhanced with digging in the world of eportfoliosAnd NZ has an audience an international oneDigital Portfolio guidelines mentioned by German educators and trranslated in French and Spanish even Australian ! I have had the opportunity to share this journey with colleagues and educators in Australia and France and it has been noted : NZ is implementing an eportfolio system for anyone in a school to use!The international nature of the community of Mahara users has also contributed to this interest
- Features: better page and group management, working towards fewer clicks still, threaded of messages > MyPortfolio to continue to involve as features evolve through the wishes of its community of usersUser Support: I observe that big drivers for myportfolio use are , in 2ary schools in particular , Assessment and NCEA, and preparing students for this, RTC and initial teacher training. To help support adoption 2 things; a contextualised help menu dedicated to myportfolio (heath’s) and planning any ongoing support with the “one fits one” appraoch with whoever have made a start and showing commitment. That might involve collaborative working with a wider team of trainers.The biggest challenge for workshop participants > to get their head round that this tool can support their students learning but also their own learning. Sec teachers in particular are used to discover things that they will use themselves or that their students will use to make an improvement, to drive a change. MyPortfolio works equally well for both teachers and students as it makes the learning process visible, sharable and rewindable. This needs repeating a lot. Again the seed has been planted And slowly will grow a community of great teachers who also are great learners! my understanding of the use of of an eportfolio, and the reasons why. through using a dedicated eportfolio system like myportfolio, has transformed my approach to teaching. It is absolutely about learning and how to learn. If it is has worked for me it will work for many others.
