Chinese want to grow vegetables widely in Romania
A group of Chinese investors in Anhui Province intends to buy or
lease farmland in southern Romania to invest in production and
processing of vegetables and fruit, said on Thursday President
Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Gabriel Ghelmegeanu.
"A delegation of five people, led by Chairman of the Committee of Agriculture of Anhui Province, is
in Romania to visit agricultural areas south of the country and find investment opportunities in
agriculture and food industry in Romania, especially in the vegetable and fruit. The delegation
members are representatives of large companies in Anhui Province in the sectors of processing,
pomiculture, wine, vegetables and fruits", said the head of the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of
Commerce. According to him, Chinese investors want to invest the entire chain, from production to
processing and marketing, for this reason are interested in buying agricultural land to lease or to
create joint venture.
"They're more interested in agricultural areas of the south, as in the case of investments will have a
production and processing base close to a metropolis. During Thursday the Chinese delegation will
meet the Ministry of Agriculture, and later will visit the wholesale market in Bucharest and other
main markets like Obor market and fruit and vegetables markets near Bucharest. Friday, the
Chinese delegation will be in Giurgiu Free Zone, where will meet with representatives of the
Chamber of Commerce and the people in the area to see investment opportunities", said President
of the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Gabriel Ghelmegeanu. Anhui Province in China has
nearly 67 million inhabitants, covers an area of 13,96 hectares and is one of the main vegetable
pools in China and one of the largest grain producers.
Earlier this week, Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabără, met with Vice-President of China National
Agricultural Development Group Corp., Liu Lianjun, the two officials discussing business
opportunities the Chinese company can find in Romania in the field crop, fisheries, research and
farming. The Chinese side has shown interest in Canal Siret – Bărăgan Project and the possibility to

Corp. has 16 branches in 14 different countries worldwide and 80 branches in China. The main
