Good afternoon
I’m going to talk about three things:
Give you an update on our hybrid cloud service and where we plan to take it
Talk about what this means for you in the audience – our partners
Discuss opportunities we have together to generate new business together in helping our customers along their use of cloud computing
Shall we get started?
[T] A year ago we announced the launch of our hybrid cloud service, and talked about the services we’d deliver
We started a mission to make cloud computing easier for enterprises.
And we have delivered.
In less than 12 months, we have:
Launched our service in North America, Europe and Asia to go along with our expansive network of over 3,900 partners in more than 100 countries
<CLICK> - and today, I’m proud to share with you some of the additional services we delivered this year.
Disaster Recovery as a Service
The ability to extend existing applications like Horizon View into the cloud and
The tools to develop new applications either natively on the platform or by taking advantage of Pivotal Cloud Foundry
(reference rebrand) As a result of our momentum, we decided to rename the platform to vCloud Air, to better symbolize all future cloud services from Vmware.
And we have delivered.

Our mission has received respect from industry watchers – and has helped me validate that our team is on the right path forward.
But for me, the most exciting part of the journey has been to talk to customer who are using the service
I’d like to share three great stories with you…
MIT Media Lab – one of the most renowned research institutions in the world
The speed of research and computing demands are so intense, that they’re DR deployments could not keep up with the pace of change
They discovered our DR as a service offering on vCloud Air, and deployed DR in a matter of days vs. having to wait weeks or months to create a failover environment
OR BetFair – one of the fastest growing entertainment and gaming companies in the UK
Their online business demands an exceptional customer experience, low latency for the mobile apps, and a complex integration with back-end transactional systems.
The best pat they found was with vCloud Air, no rewrites applications require, and the ability to manage their entire on- and off-premise environments as one single platform
OR Near by – Columbia Sportswear, who we shared with you last year
Started their journey with hybrid cloud by using it to accelerate dev and test for their line of business developers
And now are expanding their usage to also support their DR strategy
There are many more stories, and many new companies just now discovering the possibilities to transform IT into a strategic function with vCloud Air.
It’s an exceptionally exciting time of change, and I’m honored to see that in one year, VMware customers view vCloud Air as the de facto choice for their cloud computing strategy
Not only is our list of customers growing, but we’ve also rapidly expanded our vCloud Air data center footprint. And we now have coverage across North America, Europe and Asia
Watch this space as we continue to grow this footprint – and in the the very near future we will be announcing the availability of our vCloud Government service that has been fully accredited as FEDRAMP compliant here in the USA.
So, let’s talk about where we’re taking the service in it’s next cycle of growth…
vCloud Air is a true hybrid cloud platform
It allows you to manage your on premises and public cloud platform as One environment.
One liquid pool of resources with full compatibility whether the app started on-premises or in the cloud.
With the same management, same networking and same security that you have used to battle harden your existing environments.
vCloud Air enables you to:
Extend your existing applications (what we call the inside out model) – ie. More capacity based on seasonal demand, or for quickly entering a new market.
Or as hundred of our clients are already doing implement a very cost effective disaster recovery solution
Enable your developers to deploy next-generation applications in seconds and then scale those deployments just as fast with seamless integration into your dev ops tools
And much, much more.
This is vCloud Air. This is how you to take control and lead your organization into the Professional Era of Cloud
[T]…Let’s hear from a few customers who are already on this journey
In order to help customers realize this goal, we’re aggressively adding new capabilities to the service…
Our next wave of innovation is focused in two areas: The first is in helping customer accelerate your adoption of the public cloud for your existing workloads – I.e. SharePoint, Oracle, Exchange, etc. And the second is enabling you to support your development team’s adoption of next generation cloud services.
DevOps builds the automated processes that enable your organizations to deliver new applications and services at the speed required by your business.
They need new tools to automate the entire software development lifecycle. Not just the software build process, but also the deployment of the required underlying IT infrastructure.
This can be complex to setup, especially when you want a hybrid process such as running dev and test in the cloud, but keeping your production deployment on-premises.
We’re addressing these challenges by introducing new vCloud Air DevOps services.
The first of these, Continuous Integration as a Service, will be available later this year, and will enable your developers to automate the software build, test and fix processes, with support for pre-integrated, best-in-class and open source software development tools.
In order to help you simplify and lower the cost of using relational databases, both for your existing workloads as well as your next generation applications, we’re bringing Database-as-a-Service to vCloud Air.
Starting with MySQL and MS SQL Server, we’ll be supporting all of the popular relational databases, with all of the capabilities you’d expect to support production applications.
We’ll even be offering disaster recovery to vCloud Air for on-premise databases.
In order to support your next generation applications, we’ll soon be offering Object Storage to complement the variety of storage options, already available on vCloud Air.
Our Object Storage is extremely scalable, secure, dependable and cost effective, supporting an array of uses including backup to the cloud, shared file storage and next generation big data solutions.
In fact, I’m excited to announce we are launching a beta in September!
Mobile devices have become the dominant platform for new application development, but the demand for scale and need to integrate with enterprise information systems has become a huge challenge.
vCloud Air is answering your call for support with a complete set of mobile services from a consortium of expert mobility partners, offering choice and end-to-end security, including VMware’s AirWatch Mobile Application Management platform, which will be available on vCloud Air this year.
One important mobility partner is Pivotal. I’m pleased to announce the availability on vCloud Air, of Pivotal CF Mobile Services, which extends Pivotal CF, and provides both Mobile Backend and Mobile Application Development Platform capabilities. Pivotal CF Mobile Services are perfect for very large scale enterprise mobile applications. In fact, vCloud Air customers are already in production today, using Pivotal CF Mobile Services to push millions of messages to their customers’ mobile devices, world wide.
In order for the public cloud to be a seamless extension of your on-premises environment, where there are no tradeoffs when you move an existing workload to the cloud, you need to be able to manage the entire hybrid cloud from a single pain of glass.
That’s exactly our approach to cloud management: One set of management tools for both private and public cloud with the freedom to run those tools on premises or in vCloud Air.
And we’re making it easy to adopt, by offering our new vRealize Cloud Management Platform as a service on vCloud Air. You’ll hear much more about this tomorrow.
And we are delivering all of that on a platform that delivers:
Compatibility: With your on-premises private cloud – doesn’t matter if your app is running on-premises or off-premises - and with the applications and operating systems that you depend on today. In fact, vCloud Air supports more operating systems than all other cloud providers combined
Compliance – Enabling you to meet the most stringent compliance standards including FISMA, HIPAA, PCI and of course FedRAMP, while seamlessly extending your corporate security policies and identities
Choice: Through an ecosystem of thousands of ISVs, SIs and vCloud Air Network partners, offering you unequalled choice and innovation
[T] And we are enabling you to plug in with zero friction
I’m thrilled to announce we are launching a beta of vCloud Air OnDemand to complement our existing subscription offering.
We are inviting a few thousand clients to become trusted testers of this service that we expect to bring into general availability in early 2015.
Go to vmware.com/go/ondemand today to apply as a trusted tester for the beta!
So, now I like to talk about what this all means for you, our partner community, and how we envision driving more business together.
Our view is that – you – our partners have an incredible opportunity to deliver value added services on top of vCloud Air.
Be it, geographic availability, industry specific requirements, helping customer adopt hybrid, or technical services revolved around integration on even build out of new applications or environments.
The rising tide of business opportunity around hybrid cloud will lift all boats.
What is our strategy FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS:
Opportunities:
Continue to build in VMware software — we’ll deliver components used in vCHS plus blueprints etc.
Provide value-added services in top of vCHS
While we continue to roll out vCloud Air in to new markets and with more and more services, we are also investing heavily in supporting our ecosystem of service provider partners to deliver the same range of hybrid cloud service offerings – why are we doing this? We want you to have as much choice as possible in the service providers you partner with to enter the ‘professional era of cloud’
We now have more than 3,900 partners world wide – and we call this the vCloud Air Network
vCloud Air - VMware’s hybrid cloud service - is just a part of this network that now spans over 106 countries – that’s right 3,900 partners in over 106 countries – This is industrial scale….
Providing you with a wide choice of service providers allows you to select providers that bring additional services that may be key to your requirements for a specific industry vertical or application type.
It also helps ensure that our network can meet your needs from data sovereignty perspective – that’s only possible when you have partners with data centers in more than 100 countries
The vCloud Air Network also opens up incredible opportunities for innovation across the network, with partners developing more and more services on the vCloud Air platform.
This is a network, with unequalled coverage, that is available and operating today.
[T] Simply put…
Let’s talk about what vCloud Air means for solution providers.
Opportunities:
Provide value-added services on top of vCHS
Provide consulting and assessments for cloud transformation
vCloud Air gives customers a zero-friction onramp to hybrid cloud. By bringing customers on to the platform, partners have the opportunity to deliver high-margin services and deep engagement helping customers on their journey to the cloud.
Partners that help customers move from on-demand usage to full subscriptions will continue to be paid by VMware.
Partners that help customer use higher value services like DR, Desktop or our PaaS capabilities will continue to be paid by Vmware.
Let’s discuss the role of SI’s and hybrid cloud.
Opportunities:
Provide consulting and assessments for cloud transformation
Help customers build new hybrid apps
There are many of you in the audience today, and I’m sure you recognize the nearly limitless opportunity to lead customer to the right choice as they seek to lower cost or increase agility through the use of public cloud. But the greater opportunity lies in improving the cost to host and run enterprise applications. Many of these projects translate into build outs of new or extended enterprise applications.
Opportunities for ISV partners
Reach VMware customer base by offering service on vCHS
SaaSify your app most easily in vCHS
