GOAL: A. To encourage your students to read from a variety of genre
outside of their regular school day.
B. To introduce your students to enjoy and become familiar with
fairytales, Legends, and classical literature from all over the world.
C. To introduce E books to our users and our new Overdrive features.

4. PRIZES and
How to!
• In order to be entered for a prize, each student needs to read the
minimum amount of minutes assigned for each grade.
• To be entered to win the grand prize for the Kobo E Readers, students
need to submit a book review to Destiny Quest at our HCS Library, based
on the minimum daily reading requirements. Two draws will be made for
the Kobo readers based on these criteria.
• Chapter gift cards to the value of $20, will be awarded to the student with
the highest score in each grade.
• All students will receive a Read-a-thon Certificate from their teacher.
5. PROGRAM DATES
• Monday January 23 – Friday 2nd March 2012
• Parents please keep track of your student’s reading times on the Google
forms, and make sure their reading is outside of class time. Please use
your discretion.
• MINIMUM READING REQUIREMENTS: Kindergarten 20 minutes daily.
Grade 1- 25 minutes. Grade 2- 25 minutes. Grade 3 and 4 -30 minutes. Grade
5 – 40 minutes. Grade 6 and up 1 hour.

information
• At the end of the 6 week period Shandra, swiebe@onlineschool will tally
up your totals for final scores, and enter your students into the
draws, depending on whether they have met the minimum reading time
for their grade levels.
• **Please register at this document link to start the program.
• Here is a word doc for tallying your weekly minutes for your own
purposes. This does not need to be sent to the school.
• **To enter your weekly minute scores please complete the following
sheet at the end of the read-a-thon.
