The king demands that Daniel and his friends tell him the dream he had, as well as its interpretation. If they are unable to do so, they will be executed, as the king believes they are conspiring to mislead him and delay their punishment through false words. Daniel insists that if they tell the king both the dream and its meaning, then he will know they have truly received divine revelation about its significance.
