1. In the planning of our production, we agreed that the
Locations: location was crucial to setting the scene. We found
several ideal places that we had to decide between.
2. Locations:
Our first idea was of an abandoned house in the Billericay
area. We thought this would be ideal due to it being dark
and decrepit.
We stuck with this idea for a long time, as we knew no-
body else knew about it and it would fit in nicely with our
‘psychological thriller’ preference. Unfortunately we do
not have a picture to include in this presentation.
However, in time we realised that due to it being burned down recently it probably
wasn’t safe. We discussed it and eventually decided to start looking for more.
3. Following this, we began searching for locations that
Locations: other people may have not considered. Someone outside
of our group suggested an abandoned train station, so
we began looking in to that.
Initially we looked at Ongar Railway Station, as it’s local
and supposedly unused. However, we recently found out
that it is in fact still in use, but only once per week. This
leaves it available as an option, but left us considering
something else.
Keeping to the train station idea, we did more research
and found Aldwych, a decommissioned London
Underground station that is rentable to film. V for
Vendetta, a personal favourite film of mine, and 28
Weeks Later, a favourite of the group’s, were both filmed
there.
Unfortunately after contacting Transport For London, we
found out that renting the station would cost more than
we could afford, so we scrapped this idea and continued
looking,
4. Locations:
We moved our search away from train
stations and more towards asylums and
hospitals. We looked at Severalls and
were set on using that, but had to
abandon this idea too, due to
complications.
We looked at one last place, a derelict
mansion (Copped Hall) that looked
plausible. We looked into it and found
out that it was now owned by Rod
Stewart and was being renovated as a
type of ‘museum’. Due to this fact we
didn’t pursue it much further.
5. Locations:
With time now beginning to run short, we took a pot shot at one
final location closer to home; a house in the woods located in
Shenfield. One member of the group scouted the location and
took pictures to present to the rest of us. We decided to settle
with this idea, as it was easily accessible to the entire group,
ideal for our intentions and fitted the codes and conventions of a
typical thriller. All that was left to do was go there as a group and
film.
