Fantasy football sleepers 2013
1. Fantasy Football Sleepers 2013
NFL fantasy football sleepers will help you identify which players to draft
to win a fantasy football championship in 2013. The sleepers listed
will either breakout or bounce back from last season and
outperform their fantasy football draft position. Sleepers are
undervalued players and are typically drafted in the mid to late
rounds.
Fantasy Football Quarterback Sleepers
Philip Rivers | QB | SD Age: 31 Exp. 9 years
Philip Rivers is undervalued and will be one the top sleepers to grab
in your 2013 fantasy football draft. Last season Rivers wasn't even a
top 20 fantasy football quarterback which was his worst season in
five years. In 2013, the Chargers hired new head coach Mike
McCoy, offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhut, and offensive line
coach Joe D'Alessandris. The San Diego offensive line allowed 49
sacks in, which was one of the biggest problems for Rivers in 2012.
New offensive line coach Joe D'Alessandris was with the Buffalo
Bills the last three years. In 2011 D'Alessandris started eight
different offensive line schemes and led the league with fewest sacks
allowed (23). The Bills allowed an average of 29 sacks in those three
years. While the Chargers allowed an average of 39 sacks the last
three years. Also Rivers has the fourth easiest schedule against the
pass in 2013. Philip Rivers should bounce back and become a top
fantasy football quarterback in 2013 with a fresh start and a new
coaching staff.
Sam Bradford | QB | STL Age: 25 Exp. 3 years
Sam Bradford has been the starting quarterback for the St. Louis
Rams for three consecutive years. In the past three years, Bradford
has had three different offensive coordinators with three different
offensive schemes. This will be Bradford's fourth year in the NFL
and the first time he will have the same offensive coordinator from
the previous year. Also, the Rams recently signed Jake Long to help
with their offensive line which has been one of the worst in the NFL.
Long has been selected to the Pro Bowl the last three years. Also the
Rams drafted Tavon Austin, a wide receiver from West Virginia in
the first round. Austin in his senior year had 1,932 yards from
2. scrimmage and a total of 15 touchdowns. With Austin's dynamic
playmaking ability and an upgraded Rams offensive line expect
Bradford to breakout in 2013.
Carson Palmer | QB | ARI Age: 33 Exp. 10 years
During the offseason, Carson Palmer was traded to the Arizona
Cardinals. He will be joined with new head coach Bruce Arians and
one of the top wide receivers in NFL, Larry Fitzgerald. Arians won
the 2012 AP coach of the year award with the Colts and helped
Andrew Luck become a top ten fantasy quarterback last season. The
group of receivers including Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Roberts, and
Michael Floyd in Arizona will be an upgrade for Palmer over the
Oakland Raiders receivers he had to work with the past two seasons.
Carson Palmer will be undervalued in this year's fantasy football
draft and should have a career year with the Cardinals.
Fantasy Football Running Back Sleepers
Shane Vereen | RB | NE Age: 23 Exp. 2 year
Shane Vereen is expected to receive more playing due to Danny
Woodhead leaving the Patriots. Vereen will take over Woodhead's
role which was on passing downs and in the no-huddle offense. In
2012, Woodhead carried the ball 76 times and caught 40 passes in 16
games. In the 13 games Vereen played, he carried the ball 62 times
and had 8 receptions. With Woodhead gone, expect Vereen to get at
least 130 carries and around 40 receptions and breakout in 2013.
Le'Veon Bell | RB | PIT Age: 21 Exp. Rookie
Le'Veon Bell is a top rookie running back sleeper in the 2013 fantasy
football drafts. The offensive coordinator of the Steelers, Todd
Haley, has already said that Bell is a workhorse and can play all
three downs. Bell proved himself last year in his junior year with
Michigan State carrying the ball 382 times, rushing for 1,793 yards,
and scoring 12 touchdowns. Bell's competition during the off season
will be Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman who both struggled last
year. Le'Veon Bell should have no problem out performing them in
the offseason and will most likely be the fantasy running back to
own on the Steelers in 2013.
Rashard Mendenhall | RB | ARI Age: 25 Exp. 4 years
Rashard Mendenhall signed with the Arizona Cardinals during the
3. offseason reuniting him with Bruce Arians. Mendenhall averaged
1,103 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns when Arians was the
offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Arians has already
hinted that Mendenhall will be the starter and likes one guy to
receive the majority of the carries. Also, Arians said he wanted a
proven running back that can carry them to the Super Bowl. Last
season Mendenhall was coming off an ACL surgery and played
poorly throughout the season due to injuries. Mendenhall will be a
sleeper this year in 2013 and will bounce back from his poor
performance in 2012.
Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Sleepers
Kenny Britt | WR | TEN Age: 24 Exp. 4 years
Kenny Britt will bounce back and will be one the top sleepers in
fantasy football in 2013. In 2012 Britt had a poor season because he
was still recovering from two knee surgeries he had during the
offseason. Before he tore his ACL during the 2011 season Britt had
17 receptions, 289 yards, and 3 touchdowns in 3 games. The 12
games he played in 2010 he had 42 receptions, 775 yards and 9
touchdowns. Britt played his first full season without missing a game
in 2012. This will be Britt's fifth year in the NFL and his contract
year. His teammates said they were impressed with his recovery and
conditioning when they saw him at workouts in April. Britt is
undervalued and will be drafted in the mid rounds of your fantasy
draft.
Vincent Brown | WR | SD Age: 24 Exp. 2 years
Vincent Brown is a sleeper that owners should draft in their 2013
fantasy football leagues. He will be entering his third year in the
NFL. Last year Brown broke his foot in preseason and did not play
the 2012 regular season. Brown had great chemistry with Philip
Rivers before breaking his foot. He was supposed to take over
Vincent Jackson's role at the WR position. In 2013, the Chargers
have been easing Brown back into the offense to make sure there is
no set backs. In OTA's Brown has been rotating with Malcolm
Floyd, starting opposite Danario Alexander. New head coach Mike
McCoy said that Brown will have a big role in the Chargers offense
this year. Expect Brown to start opposite of Danario Alexander at
the start of the regular season. Also, Danario Alexander is injury
prone playing only one full season in college which was his senior
4. year and has never played more than 10 games in a NFL season.
Alexander has had five knee surgeries on his left knee since his
sophomore year in college. With Alexander most likely not playing a
full season due to his injury history, expect Brown to be the top
fantasy wide receiver for the Chargers in 2013.
Justin Blackmon | WR | JAC Age: 23 Exp. 1 year
Last year Justin Blackmon broke out during week 11 in his rookie
season with 7 receptions, 236 yards, and a touchdown against the
Houston Texans. In four out of the six next games he had 9 or more
fantasy points in standard fantasy football leagues. He had a total of
38 receptions, 615 yards, and four touchdowns in the last seven
games of the season. Blackmon should benefit with Maurice Jones-
Drew the Jaguars running back returning from injury in 2013. The
Jaguars were ranked 30th in rushing yards without Jones-Drew in
2012. With Jones-Drew healthy things should open up more for
Blackmon down the field. Blackmon will be suspended the first four
games of season which will make a sleeper pick in 2013. He should
be targeted in the late rounds of your fantasy football draft.
A.J. Jenkins | WR | SF Age: 23 Exp. 1 year
Jenkins was drafted 30th overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2012.
As a rookie last year, Jenkins only played three regular season
games and two playoff games. He was targeted just once in those five
games. Jenkins will get his chance to start this year with Michael
Crabtree most likely out most of the season with a torn achilles
tendon. Also, Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams who were
ahead of him on the depth chart last year are still rehabbing from
ACL injuries. During the offseason Jenkins has been working out
with Colin Kaepernick in Atlanta and learning all of the wide
receiver positions to become a more versatile receiver. Jenkins will
be a sleeper deep in 2013 fantasy football drafts.
Fantasy Football Tight End Sleepers
Jared Cook | TE | STL Age: 27 Exp. 5 years
Jared Cook has been underutilized playing with the Titans the past
four years. In 2013, he was signed by the St. Louis Rams who
wanted a big receiving down-field threat. Cook is 6'5" 250 pounds,
which is the biggest receiver on the Rams and a big red zone target
for Sam Bradford. He is also familiar with the Rams head coach Jeff
5. Fisher who coached him in his rookie year with the Titans. Cook will
be a sleeper pick in 2013 and available in the later rounds of your
fantasy football draft.
Dwayne Allen | TE | IND Age: 23 Exp. 1 year
Allen finished his rookie season with 45 receptions, 512 yards, and
three touchdowns. He is undervalued and should improve in 2013
with the Colts hiring new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton from
Stanford. Hamilton plans on using more short efficient passes in the
Colts offense in 2013. Allen would be targeted more in this new
offensive scheme. Hamilton said Allen is a versatile player and
expects him to do well in the new offense. Allen is a sleeper pick that
you should not miss in your 2013 fantasy football draft.
