ONLINE VS IN STORE
PURCHASES AT MACYS
Why Macys?
• From a single dry goods store opened in New York City in 1858, Macys has grown into one
of the nations premier retailors for fashion and affordable luxury.
• Macy’s Inc. is one of the nations premier omnichannel retailors with fiscal 2014 sales of
$28.1 billion dollars.
• This company operates the Macy’s and Bloomingdales brands with about 825 stores in 45
states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.
Hypothesis
• A younger demographic enjoys shopping online rather than in store
• People prefer online shopping if they could not carry the large products
• Peoples mood depends on how they shop
Methodology
• We use pace qualltricsfor people to take a survey
• We also used social media to promote our survey
• Asked family members and friends
Why does Macy’s feel like they have so much success?
• Macy’s diverse workforce includes approximately 172,500 employees.
• They claim that their success is due to the amazing ideas, energy and enthusiasm their
associates have.
• Working with any part of Macy’s Inc. gives people the opportunity to observe, learn, and
participate
• The Macy’s database includes 33 million active household and more than 500million
transactions per year. Of those 500 million transactions, seven of 10 can be matched to a
unique user.
People enjoy in store shopping because…
• They can try out clothing, shoes etc.
• Can get hands on help
• See quality first hand
• Can use senses such as touch to experience the product differently
• Most ladies enjoying shopping with their friends
• Sometimes people can get special discount
People enjoy online shopping because…
• It is more convenient
• Sometimes a store could be far away from them
• Free shipping sometimes apply so you don’t have to leave your home
• It is easier when you know exactly what you want
• Do not have to be in a crowed store
• Online may offer some special sales
Conclusion
• We are finding 68% people like shopping in the store, and 39% people like shopping online.
The rest of percentage they like both shopping method.
• People also think weather will affect their decision to go to the store
• Most people choose clothing department is their favorite one
• Most people think they will choose online shopping if they buy large product or something
very heavy
